It has approx 48k miles, FSH, inside it's immaculate hasn't missed a beat. Just passed MOT with no advisories.

The downside is that it has a few scuffs here and there and a more serious dent to the front bumper which might require a replacement to make it "as new". Basically, people on my street have no knowledge of parallel parking and little respect for other people's property :headbang:

I'm struggling to determine how to factor that into an asking price. I could it all fixed before offering for sale, but I'd be worried about history repeating while it was waiting to find another home. All else being equal, I'd prefer to offer a discount, reflecting the material and time cost of the buyer getting it fixed. They would then have an "as new" example.

I see adverts on Pistonheads ranging from £14k to £24k, but anything with this sort of mileage is £20k+ (though admittedly trade).

Any thoughts?
Definitely get it tidied up. Most people looking at these will be looking for well keep examples, especially on lower mileage cars.
If you get that sorted and it has full history I’d be asking at least £22.5k
I've got to agree here. Get it sorted, as has been noted, you'll get a disproportionately lower price if presenting it with work needing doing. Will probably fly off the shelf in A1 condition. GLWTS

Lovely example listed today with all the right options including the whippy and a full service history - albeit main stealer

That's a forum car (ish) - scotty4321.

Decent price. Maybe a bit under, even?!

That’s a cheap car. At £16k you’d think that will move very quickly.

Thanks for the comments. I don't mind taking some allowance above the cost of any actual fixes on the chin, but obviously the question is how much that is. Main concern about it getting fixed up remains that it gets dinged prior to a sale and I'm back to square one, and there is really no where else to store it. If there was, I definitely would. I think I'll probably have a dabble and gauge interest. If there isn't any with a reasonable allowance than I'll see how I can go down the fix up route.

Apart from the forum where are most people listing; Pistonheads?

Hi, Mr PT yeah it is mine. It's on 86.800 miles and is a nice car. I may have messed the price up but it's still early in the year. It will soon need 4 new tyres. Better to let the buyer choose what they want and make the car easier to sell at the same time.

You couldn't drive it, but for an investment piece this must be a good bet....right?! Is there any on lower mileage?

Best colour as well 8)

Agree with that regarding the exterior colour but the interior could be better - now if it was extended Amarone

Someone would have said this about the used 508’s, 3.0 Batmobiles or the M635i in days gone by and now look...

Will be interesting to see what happens over the next decade or so as hybrid/electric/self driving tech comes in.

Don’t have any data to back this up but I assume 508 and 635s were made in smaller numbers and if in daily use were much more susceptible to rust.

Once you factor in inflation, cars really have to jump up in value to make a profit, if you’re buying new anyway. Was thinking about selling mine as it doesn’t get a great amount of use at the moment and once you factor in inflation a 45k car (in 2008) equates to £58k in today’s money. Throw in 10 years worth of insurance, ///M priced servicing and VED and from a financial standpoint it doesn’t make a massive amount of sense.

Luckily I purchased mine for about half that price in 2010 and have had some great drives/experiences in it. Still didn’t have the balls to calculate the cost per mile though :-)

Regardless they are unlikely to drop any further, so I’ve decided just to try and use it more rather than worry about costs and mileage.

Why did they buy it?

or did it sit on some small island hardly going anywhere, getting eaten by the salt like those cars from the Channel Islands

This car used to belong to Jay Kay of Jamiroquai.
IIRC it sold at ~£38k on 3k miles a few years back.
