We had a long discussion a while back about service intervals and which services should be done when....

I'm in the ...oil... Ins I... oil... Ins II... and repeat camp (with intervals dictated by service indicator or 2 years if sooner)

Other people say inspections should be totally mileage driven with oil services every two years until an inspection is indicated by the service indicator....

Inspection II by 8 years old would be correct by the way I calculate services - although PVR and srhutch will disagree as they use the other method. If it means I'm having Inspection services sooner than absolutely necessary, I don't really care as I think that, even with low annual mileage, 4 years between inspection services is quite long enough

Just curious Perry, which item from Insp II is wearing due to time rather than use? A valve clearing is not going to change if you have only done 100 miles though?

If the service book says it should have a stamp for inspection 2 at 8 years or less I'd be looking for one, things like the diff and gearbox oil are replaced at inspection 2 and not at inspection 1 and oil degrades with time as well as mileage.

At current mileage mine will be serviced according to the service interval indicator pretty much annually, so as it doesn't matter for me I shall step away from this conversation. Oops :fuelfire:

Diff Oil, Gearbox Oil. They are inspection changes only.

Although that seems cheap, and it is, to put it into perspective a work colleague is picking up an M3 on a 2011 plate with just 13k miles on it and AUC car for £27,xxx - reduced from nearly £33k. The later M3's are not for me but that's a hell of a car for that price

But the service book doesn't.

If that was the case there would be no need for the minimum oil service every two years as a minimum.

What are the Insp 2 items on an Alpina?

Guessing plugs, gearbox oil, and diff oil.

Neither of the last two are changed on any non ///M BMW during servicing, so I can't see it being a major issue.

Changing these every 12K (for me doing 1,500 a year) would seem very much like overkill.

Anyone remember what the Interlagos MR was going for in the original post? Think it was a 1 owner car with 24k miles and had satnav and sepang interior? Was it around 16k?
Been pretty busy but did email about the £15k 35k mile asking for more pics and some info and never did receive a reply. Probably already sold but just had a quick look and still ont heir website for sale.
