New Hoops - Apex EC7

Post by JimmiVW » Tue Nov 18, 2014 11:00 am

Hi Z4M Fans!

Thought I'd put up a quick photo of the MC with new wheels fitted...
- Apex EC7 sourced through Roy at CA
- weather has been pretty poor so I'll try to get some better photos soon!

Love these wheels, a choice very well made

Take it they are 18's? What widths/offsets did you go with?

18x10 et25 at the back, 18x9 et31 at the front... with a 15mm spacer at the front.
- they're a lot lighter than my previous split rims and not quite as 'UK Stance' style - which is my preference now I'm getting older!

That's a huge whip aerial you've got on the back :poke:

Wheels look good though

Nice, expensive rubber then. Any rubbing at all? What size/make rubber did you go for?

Sorry for all the questions but it was a wheel i was considering for myself

New shoes sir! very nice indeed. Apex are popular in the US...did you get them from a UK dealer? I like those alot :D and lovely to see a clean M in the wet weather....

But the photography is shockingly bad.
For sale sign, work truck in the background... :poke: .come on I know you can do better for your Zed...I believe in you!

In regards to the whippy, ignore the comments....

Thanks for the positive comments guys

Wheels; came from Apex in the US, but through Roy at CA - can't remember the exact price as Apex had a sale on - around £1300 I think.

Tyres; currently running Pirelli P-Zero, apparently not a 'favourite' around here but I've no complaints, decent grip and predictable enough
- 235/40 front, 265/35 rear
- no signs of rubbing but the rears are VERY close to the arch lip and I wouldn't be surprised if there's a slight 'touch' on full compression at speed

Aerial; I'll try and set up a group buy on these and flux capacitors for you guys - then you can be as cool as me...

Photography; I didn't want to put up good photos as the car would look wayyyy too cool and you'd all get upset :poke:

Looks great. Good to see someone sticking to 18s and nailing it.

Nice one, thanks for the info on tyres. No your homework is to go drive like a lunatic and report back on the rubbing, or lack of

I've had a really good 'try' and so far so good - i.e. no rubbing...
... the splits I just took off were 18x10 et22 (same tyres) - they only touched at 'about the national speed limit' on a very undulating road in the lakes :driving:

Should probably point out that my experiences are in no way a guarantee that this set up won't rub on your car / anyone else's.
I've got a fair list of suspension tweaks too, alongside alignment, all of which means that my calculation in buying these wheels were very specific to my car...
... this is me making sure nobody hates me when they buy the same specs and can't make it work - good karma and all that! :tumbleweed:

I have those wheels, almost exactly the same sizes: 18x8.5 ET35 on the front and 18x10 ET25 of the rear. I run 245/40 on the front and the only time I get rubbing is under heavy braking on track. I don't use spacers though I do have a fair bit of negative camber.
