The question is, I'm happy to just stick with the OEM leather gaitor. Can I just pull my F10 gear knob off the supplied gaitor? Noted in Nina's post she's said this might be possible but just wanted to be 100%!
Yep, that's what I did.
Cracking; thanks, Tom.

Let us know how it goes, I'm tempted myself. Where did you order from and for how much if you don't mind me asking.

Brief update on my research into this, I found a better description of the gaitor removal method;

Looks pretty simple to me!

Anyone done this on a non-M? I'm after wires to tap into for the illumination.

Anyone else ordered and gave this a go recently? I've ordered mine, collect it on Monday. This is an amazing guide so hopefully it has everything I need to know! But anyone else who's done it, input would be great :thumbsup:

So I'm now waiting 24 hours for the glue to set properly. The hardest part of this whole job was deciding what to do with the excess at the front, as you're left with around an inch of doubled over leather loop at the top as a big flap type thing. So I had to make a couple of slits and fold it on top of itself so I've got a few layers of leather where the arrow is pointing which is obviously thicker than the rest of the surround. My concern now is that this may not fit into the snug tight space, it's flattened as hard as possible but has anyone else who's done this managed to get away with that?

Job done, thanks to Nina for this picture perfect flawless guide, I would never have done this job without the guide being so clear and concise :thumbsup: I've just taken it up the road and back, and honestly so far it's the best mod I've done to date... there isn't many but this makes the gear shift feel completely transformed. Sounds ridiculous, but the shifter is made from far superior materials to the OEM Z4 knob and it's much shorter which again enhances the shift. Highly recommend it if you have a spare £113!

the leather at the front of the shifter just doesn't look right.. its like its folded over itself on the edges, think that needs alittle more work....Respect for giving this a go as I'm terrible at these small finicky jobs, give me a gearbox removal anyway!

Aye that bit was the hardest part of the job, there was a huge amount of excess there and I couldn't face cutting it in case I removed too much. It can possibly be saved dependent on which bits i've glued but its pretty much symmetrical so i can live with it I think. :)

Think I will be just be changing the knob itself & keeping the old gaiter in place, despite being less high quality leather. Lazy, but within my skill set!

You need to push the z4 ring up into the M5 gator until it's a good fit and cut the excess leather off. Look at my earlier post for what it should look like when there isn't all the excess leather bunched up. Use contact cement which glues it instantly without the need to use any clamps. Good effort though.
