Beeping alarm sound outside the car with flashing hazards?!?! Any ideas?

Post by Verinder1984 » Sat Aug 07, 2021 12:42 pm

Hi guys,

So havnt used my z4 much last few weeks and today I used it for a short journey.

When I lock the car and walk away… 15 mins later a beeping alarm is going off (with hazard flashing) . Similar to what expect of u put ur alarm on and left the windows open.

Is this some system which tells u the battery is going flat????

As a test I have parked the car and not locked the doors … so far so good no sound.

Let me know if you have any ideas. My guess is low battery or water in alarm system?

I believe the most common suspect is the bonnet switch, on the bulkhead above the point where the strut braces meet.
Either it's been knocked or it is playing up.
Try disconnecting that and see what happens.

Alternatively, tell the wife/husband/child/dog/cat* (*delete as applicable) to sit very, very still until you get back. :D

Update so the car is unlocked and there hasn’t been any alarm sound. It only happens when the car is locked.

Yep, bonnet switch seems likely.

You can lock the car with the key in the lock and the alarm doesn’t arm.

Hope it's the switch then, as the passenger will never sit still all night. :D
