How much would it take to tempt you to sell your Z4MR?

Post by tomscott » Tue Jun 29, 2021 12:19 pm

Unfortunately unlike my 911 which has jumped up about 7-8k since I got it the Z4M was a bit disappointing.

Mines on 71k pretty rare combo the WBAC was pretty poor and the motorway.co.uk was 2k less than that! WBAC It was 2k less than I payed for it 2 years ago and I got a good deal on it when I bought it too...

To twist my arm I would need 14.5-15.5. The Z4M doesn't seem to have done as well as other cars in the current market.

My dad also has a 2012 21k 991.1 and was offered 10k more than Porsche Kendal 6 months ago... Thats more than he paid for it 4 years ago.

Im sure that selling privately might aid but honestly it looks like the Z4M market is slowing compared to others most of these cars aren't shifting which means they are too expensive.

I’m not fully convinced by tomscotts opinion there.

I do agree there are some highly optimistic sellers on the market but sensibly priced ///M’s are shifting.

I suspect the total addressable market for the aspirational 911 owner is always going to be bigger than a niche ///M crew which has created a higher short term pent up demand. However as a consequence I’d also expect that bubble to burst quicker.

Now is the time to sell the Porsche. :poke:
If the forum helped you, why not help the forum back. Thats the Z4 way!

I must agree with Tom. In my opinion low mileage coupes etc are worth good money but roadsters like mine which has 104k on it are actually getting to be worth the same as a 3.0si.
Shame as wanted to sell soon but isnt worth me doing so if I was only going to get 10k for it

I could be tempted to sell my 26k mile roadster if I could get a nice 5.3m Ribtec RIB as an alternative.

Seriously. I am open to offers on my ruby black, red interior . Gruppe M, RPI back boxes , Storm gear knob and handbrake. AC schnitzel pedals ( all original items available ) It has a full service history and has been used regularly but infrequently as opposed to being left unused for some time.

Just because something is scarce doesn't mean it's desirable. Which is one of the key proponents of many "how much is car X going to appreciate" debates.

Z4M also needs a considerable amount of seat time to gel with and it's very sensitive to setup so the current trend of buy it for a few months and flip is not going to favour cars like these. I think the drivetrain factor will make it appealing but can't see them getting to lofty figures of Porsches but in the past 2 decades very few BMW models have to be fair.

I was tempted out of mine by a 2018 Audi TTS, which I collected at the weekend. The TTS feels quicker on the road than the Z4M - a difference that is backed up by official figures. It sounds susprisingly good for a bog standard four pot, though not as vocal as the S54 with carbon air intake. They're very different cars, of course, and while I miss the old school charm of the E85, I'm blown away by the technology of a current Audi.

I don't regret selling, but I do wish I could have kept the Z4 alongside the TT.

Yes, but that usually isn't an option!

I wish I had kept my MK2 Escort RS2000 when I got my first Capri 2.8 Injection - and now I wish I still had them both.

I've been running two cars for a few years now, with the Z4s living in my garage and my diesel daily on the driveway in the weather. I work from home now, and have my girlfriend's car on the drive as well, so it made sense to swap both of my cars for one fun car that can live in the garage :driving:

Your Escort and Capri would be worth a fair bit now, if you'd kept on top of the inevitable rust! :o

I’m using the Coupe most of the time so the MR isn’t getting a great deal of tarmac time which pushes me in to thinking I should consider selling her.
The problem is once I do take her out for a drive the difference to the Coupe is night and day, as is the power delivery and, like a filthy lady of the night, she pulls me back from the door with the promise of things that shouldn’t be spoken of!
The fact the suspension, wheels and brakes have all been uprated means I’d probably not see a massive increase in the sale price in comparison to what the parts cost.
Then I look back at her and, well……
