Purchasing advice, please

Post by lfyost1 » Mon May 31, 2021 2:34 pm

Hello,
I'm looking at options regarding picking up an M roadster. Being new to this brand and quest I have many questions. I'm viewing available 2006 and 2007 models available in the U.S.
Wondering how important is seeking a vehicle with the 'sport' package, or the 'premium' package? Does the 'premium' package include the suspension and other features or the 'sport' package?
This will be a pleasure driving car for my wife and I.
I'll very much appreciate replies and any further recommendations.
Thank you.

Let me just check - are you talking about a badged up ‘M sport’ model from any era or the 3.2 343 ponied manual produced between 06-08?

If it’s the former, just remember the more goodies you pay for at the beginning, the happier she’ll (& u) will be and the easier it’ll be come time to sell... if it’s the latter suggest unless your Mrs has family Michelle Mouton or Sabine Schmitz blood in her veins, pick a different toy

Most of the ones I'm seeing available have a 3.2 L in the specs.

She would be the passenger.
I appreciate the cautionary advice.
Most of the recreational cars I've had have been British... a few MGs,TRs, and an XKE series II. I've ridden in a Z4, but not been behind the wheel yet. I'm seeing that the M series hold their value better than the standard models.
I had been seeking a Honda S2000 but at 6'+ I don't fit well.

Msport cars are normal engined with a trim upgrade - "M" cars are a totally different beast - go buy and enjoy the ride, you may surprise a few with the power at the traffic light gran prix

We live very rural and it's a full half hour drive to find a stoplight!

If it’s a proper Z4M then there is no such thing as a ‘sport’ or ‘premium’ package.

They all came as standard with the sport seats, M-specific suspension, double-crease bonnet/hood, 340mm front brakes, etc, etc.

The only differences between them will be customer options fitted when purchased, or retro-fitted since…be that extended/individual leather, pro hi-if/nav, hard top, coil-over suspension, carbon airbox, louder exhaust.

Some bits now over 163,000 miles, some less than 1,000 miles.
Individual Ruby Black, Individual extended champagne leather, plus many options

The dealer descriptions contain those phrases (Sport - Premium) and there's a website that lists features by those names, so I'm a bit confused.

I am no expert on the e85 but surely most of those sport and premium items would be standard on an M and things like sport button / alloys / AC / Charcoal filter / OB computer / power roof were on every Z4 :o

Also didn’t think an M could run 17’ wheels because of the size of the brakes. Also didn’t think keyless entry was available on them either but like you I’m no expert on them

Hi and welcome to the forum anyway.

But I'm a bit confused by those screen shots. :?

Mainly because the 2006/07 Z4M cars all had staggered 18" alloy wheels as standard, 8J fronts and 9J rears. They all had heated mirrors and leather M-Sport seats, plus the Roadsters all had a power top. But as far as I know keyless entry was never available, even as an option although heated seats were optional.

I think those option packages might refer to the later post 2009 E89 Z4 somehow.

But the Carfax site wouldn't accept my VIN - probably because mine is a UK car!
    Coupes because stunning!
Current - Silver Grey MC, Imola Red heated Nappa & carbon trim. Aeros, H & R Coil-overs, 224s, OE Strut brace, Nav, cup-holders, DSP Hi-Fi, pdc, cruise, MFSW, no CDV! E90 330i daily
    Gone - Montego Blue
    Gone - Ruby Black

Sounds more like a non-M roadster spec sheet - as the sport button does bugger all to the hydraulic steering on an M.
