Z4m to M2! Good move??
Has anyone on here either gone from a Z4m to M2 or owns both? Are there many comparisons
My Z4m is my weekend car as I use a van for work during the week. Don’t use it a great deal and now
my wife is currently 3 days over due with our first child so will be used less and less now . So I considering selling the Z4 and buying the M2 more practical yet still fun car?

Seems to make sense. The M2 is fantastic and gives you two more seats to use.
I think they are one of the best looking current BMW’s. I’d say go for it.

Not driven an M2 either, but all the reports suggest it's the pick of the bunch from the current ///M line up and you get more seats. Think you need to get out there and try one. Good luck.

Not had a M2 but I have had a Z4M and I've currently got a M4. I think as an all round car the M2 will be great, and from what I read from the owners of them they all seem to love them.
I'm a big fan of them.

It may have more seats, but its still a 2 door right? Not gonna be particularly practical for a newborn surely? Id look at an m3 so both wife and baby can easily get in the back.

I had an E30 325i when our first arrived, 26 years ago ..... the two doors and fitting her into the baby seat was a pain in the arse. Ended up with a Volvo 740 estate, huge thing with a cavernous boot, horses for courses. Good luck wish I could go back and do it all over again

Yes, my nephew had an E46 325ti Compact that he loved when he became a dad 4 years ago but he found it nigh on impossible getting the car-seat and his daughter in and out of the back of it.
So 3 months later I managed to find him a 325i Touring as a replacement!
An M140i with a remap if required might be easier to live with.

Thanks for the responses, definitely something to think about. Think I’m going to keep hold of the z4 for now as I just love that S54 engine which is irreplaceable!

Z4m to M2! Good move??
Nick if it's any consolation, I've got a 13 week old baby boy now, and have still managed to find time to drive the M occasionally since I got it out of storage 3 weeks ago
Personally as has already been said - the M2 can be made to work on paper with the rear seats and isofix, but the reality is it'll be a bit of a faff with 3 doors etc. so you'll probably find you wont use it as much as all that, at which point it doesn't make a huge amount more sense than just keeping the Z4.
We had this almost identical conundrum a few months ago - my wife sold her M135i 3-door for exactly the above concern, and we bought a Hyundai Tucson as a family car. Boring, but it's meant the M can stay as we have the sensible reliable comfortable family car as a separate thing.

Congratulations Ed
Nick, echoing what’s been said above, my wife has an E Class coupe and accessing a baby seat in the back is a real pain. For us, a Jaguar F Pace was the price I had to pay to keep my Zed.

agree with you both, We recently bought a VW Tiguan as the family car replacing our A35 mercedes so I can keep my M for weekends, and your probably right about using an M2 no less then my current M if I was to get one!

Z4m to M2! Good move??
I am doing this swap right now. 2021 M2c on the boat and due to hit the west coast on the 22nd. Hock Silver, 6MT, slicktop, orange stitching, Exec package, M-Perf CF rear spoiler, M-Perf CF rear diffuser. VERY excited!
Kinda sh***y how this all came about. The M2 caught my eye when it came out, and again when the M2 Competition came out for 2019. But it wasn't something on my radar to actually buy. My daily is a Golf R, my Z4MC is my fun "weekend" car, and both are paid for. Then, a few months ago, I started to take notice of the M2c again and developed a massive chubby for it. But still, not a practical car for me to buy - I don't want to give up either the Z4MC or my Golf R, and 3 cars isn't an option.
Then something crappy happened. In late January my Z4MC got bonked in the right rear in a really stupid accident that wasn't my fault. $9500 later, it's back in ship-shape, and the shop did an outstanding job. But while it was laid up I made the decision to sell it and order an M2c, as the chance was about to slip away - production ends in June for the USA (already over with for more or all of ROW), and allocations were few.
I'll sell my Z4MC at the end of the month, around or slightly after the M2c arrives. I'll revisit this thread with early impressions and some pics. Sad to be losing the Z4MC, but really happy that such a replacement exists in 2021 - the M2c really is a throwback in so many ways, good ways.
