Dash losing power

Post by Ronnie3232 » Wed Dec 23, 2020 5:53 pm

When I drive my dash is switching off ,ie Rev counter stops miles disappear , then it comes on and things bleep and all the lights come on on the dash rev counter starts working miles reappear , it’s as if it’s losing the ignition live but does not affect the engine and car drives fine.

Dash losing power

Sounds like a battery or charging circuit problem.

I had it in mine at about 110,000 miles, and then started getting low battery warnings. Replaced the battery (cheapest option first) but that only resolved it for about 2 weeks. Next was the alternator (the voltage regulator part) and I've not had the same issue since (now on over 160,000 miles).

I do know a guy who had this issue and it was a dry solder on the back of the dials itself. A replacement was expensive and he managed to get it resoldered eventually, as this also avoided conflict with mileage discrepances too.

I had this problem when my battery was around three years old. A replacement fixed it. Fingers crossed that is all yours needs.

I had this issue also, and as mmm five said swapping the voltage regulator on the alternator sorted it.

Voltage looked good at idle and trying some stationary rpm run ups, but was occasionally spiking/ dropping whilst driving causing everything to crash and reset.

With ignition on but car not started the dash warning lights are going on and off, Rev counter fuel gauge flick on and off, battery showing a steady 12.7 volts.. start car and it runs fine and altenerator showing steady 14.5 volts but dash grind mad. Removed dash clocks and swapped them from a working car and all good. So in essence the problem seams to be in the set of clocks, next questions, who fixes these or is it a new set of clocks, is their any second hand ones out there,!

Don't know if ecu testing does these repairs but they're generally the first point of call for complex electronic repairs, might be worth a phone call
