Passenger Car Sickness in Z4M

Post by survivalist » Sat Sep 12, 2020 8:21 pm

Just been having a beer and mulling over why I don't use my Z4MC as much as I'd like. Most reasons are obvious (need to take stuff to the tip, need to take more than 1 passenger etc) but only of my friends consistently feels car sick as a passenger in it.

Before you all start attacking my driving skills, he's been a passenger in a range of other cars over the years (inc E92 M3, 335i, 535d and a load on non BWM stuff). Anyone else had passengers feel unwell in the Z4?

Wondering if it's something to do with the short wheelbase or sitting close to the rear axle.

My wife always moans at me because it feels fast - sure it's because e it's low and there's very little give in the suspension, so lateral g force builds quite quickly relative to roll. But she moans whatever she's a passenger with me in  I just refer to her as the traction control and she gets in a huff, but at least then she's quiet

Other than what Ed said about the car being low and there's little room for suspension level changes then the ride might feel stiffer than in some other vehicles, except for that, me and all my passengers are gonna have to disagree with you OP

Not unwell but felt concerned for my well being

135mph start finish straight at Cadwell park in a Caterham and going into the left hander that is around a 75 deg turn the driver did not even lift off this was also the first corner at full pace the remaining time and laps just got better and better the driver could drive...

No sickness from any of my passengers. However each time I’ve been a passenger in mine, it surprises me just how bumpy the ride is; like solid  You really don’t notice is as much as the driver.

My girlfriend hate the z4m. She pretty much refuses to get in it. It does make consider selling it sometimes.

1. The car sits low to the ground
2. The seating position is quite far back, just before the rear wheels
3. The car has a long nose, which is unusual
4. The cockpit is borderline claustrophobic which is accentuated on long journeys.

I personally have no issues with the design but could see why someone could potentially suffer from car sickness by sitting in one.

My GF is ok with it and does like to be seen in it (I think) but since I put my Supersprint Powerloops on today I’m pretty sure those days are gone! 😄

Nope, no issues with the GF either. At least in the car :)

Poor seats are a frequent complaint after long trips, known problem.

The stock ride is poor, no other word for it. But then we are all getting more used to worse riding cars now. A 718S / 981 / 991 on 20" wheels rides just as poorly - worse in some regards.

My wife has always complained about my driving skills. Parking space decisions make her ill. But seriously if anybody is that weak - leave then at home

Only complaint I had with the standard seats was the lack of grab handles. Not had that complaint since I fitted the Pole Positions

Only once felt sick as a passenger, and that was due to the driver insisting on having his cabin temp at 30ºc (it was winter, but I prefer less than 20ºc at any time).
