Do the Cooling Water Expansion Tanks split and fail in the Z4M S54 engined cars like they do in other models?

Not changed mine, and it's not failed...yet (160k miles / 14 years old).

Some bits now over 163,000 miles, some less than 1,000 miles.

Have not changed mine - 2008 with 63k miles. If it's not losing/leaking coolant, I think you're OK.
FYI - I have changed it 2x on my 2004 e53 X5 with 147k miles, but the Z has been good most likely to the location away from the hot radiator.
