I had a similar problem with my nearside headlamp washer when I bought my car - all the fluid was leaking out!

Luckily I managed to source a replacement on here and Ross (Bowser134) fitted it for me and got them working properly but I had to buy a new cover from BMW as the clip that holds it on had broken. :(

After the MOT I pulled Fuse 40 to stop them working as it is not unknown for the covers to fly off or even the centre of the washer unit to do the same - plus it avoids getting streaks up the front wings. :D

And you can take the E85 roof drain item off your list as you have an E86.

I thought it was just me that ran a spreadsheet, so it's good to have some company. But I only use it for recording costs, which can still make for scary reading.

I had the CDV removed when mine was serviced and it had fresh gearbox fluid at the same time, which has improved the 1st/2nd change somewhat.

I've had mine since December and getting it exactly how I want it is still a work in progress! But that's part of the experience, so enjoy the drive. :driving:

There should be a tool kit in this recess. Most importantly it includes the key for the locking wheel bolts, as well as the towing eye and a screwdriver.

The CD changer would be here if you had one. Mine stopped working years ago and I haven’t missed it yet!
Also, I think you’re missing a rubber mat or perhaps some carpet from the storage space above the navigation drive. Certainly, mine has a dark base not hardboard.

Thanks Mr Tidy & BMWZ4MC,

Might just pull the fuse and leave it, I tend to wash my cars weekly so the lens wont be that dirty.

Spread sheets all the way! I use it for my accounts, the house, cars, holidays! Just helps me plan and estimate stuff, even if I don't stick to it. I have turned in to such a geek, even joined an Excel forum....

Anyway back to cars. I had a look, none of my wheels have a locking nut (But concerning!) so I'll get a tool set and some new tyre goo, maybe even a car cover. once the big bill for service and cam shell is done I'll look at some 18 CSL alloys, and that will be me done with eh external look.

I was going to purchase a Bluetooth adaptor to stream my music ("Country and Western", name that film) using this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bluetooth-Adap ... 726&sr=8-4

but as my car does not have a CD changed I though there will be no leads or connections behind the cabin bulk head to connect to?
I have a cheap USB to 3.5mm "thing" that fits perfectly between the AUX in and my USB charger and works. Ideally I would have a device out of the way to retain a stock look.

I will also de-badge the car as the existing M badges are faded and look a bit Blingy for me, having 3 of them.

If you've just got the basic, 6 speaker stereo, I think you'll still have a CD changer port in the back (in the dash) that you can plug one of these kits into. Not 100% sure though - someone may be able to confirm.

For what its worth, I also think you should reconsider the choice of 18" CSL-style alloys. The car deserves better! Loads of good 18" options out there (e.g. from Apex or VMR) which are better proportioned and have a more aggressive rear dish.

So today,

got some quotes for work:

INS 1; BMW £650, RL £226, BMG £250
INS 2: BMW £1024, RL £NIL BMG £400

As for rod bearing replacement; BMW wanted to survey the engine, RL will assess it, and BMG can tell from their diagnostics due to idle speed and effort. It was good to her all three garages wanting to check the car first before committing to any work. All spoke highly of the engine and importance of service history.

Also a work college who is based in NZ, messaged me. The best man at his wedding, was owner 2 of the car I purchased!! small world or what, I'm hoping to speak with him this weekend.

Anyway, today I fitted a Pipercross filter

You're doing well with your history.

I know keeper 7 of mine was a forum member and number 1 was BMW UK as that is where it had it's running in service!

It doesn't help that it has had 3 different plates either.

I've put my internal forum sticker in the driver's side rear quarter, but I've got the same glass as you so it doesn't exactly stand out.

Nice fresh grease on the bonnet catches should keep them moving freely for a while, but it's worth keeping an eye on them as the grease will also pick up dust and debris because of where they are.

If you haven't already performed surgery on your 2nd key you might find that if you used it a bit it would be revived - the rechargeable battery only charges when it is used.

I trying to use that key for driving to charge it up. I did have the metal section in contact with my tooth brush charger for about 28 hours and it still would not unlock the car. So new battery and programming it is.

So more bits arrived today:

BMW ZHP Weighted gear know, low trolly jack (90mm, not that low...) and BMW oil bags.

Awaiting:

Gearbox oil, 8mm stubby socket, oil box filler.

should get the car back from the garage next Tuesday, just need to decide who / where to get the cam shells done and some Style 32s! (Im to poor for CSLs)

Nice alloys, just be wary that you’ll need ~25mm rear spacers to retain a similar wheel/arch look vs stock (assuming style 32 in staggered E46 sizes - same as non-M Z4). The offsets are 20mm less and the rims are half an inch narrower. 25mm is big!

10mm might be worthwhile on the front too.

Thanks MrPT,

Mr Tidy also gave me some great info on wheels. I have found a fully refurbed set of Style 32s on Ebay for £525 (inc P&P £585)

seller seems switched on, they have been repaired.

Fronts: 18x8 offset 47
Rears: 18x8.5 offset 50

Or I buy a knackered set for £305, postage £80, Refurb £200 so £585 and the risk of the wrong size.

25mm feels quite big for a spacer!
