Dan's New Z4M Coupe!
Afternoon All,
So that is the deposit paid on a 2007 Z4M Coupe, at 89k with a full SH and a load of receipts.
It is standard apart from: Stubby BMW aerial, rear tints and lowering springs. The garage took it in as a part Ex against a Jag. Did some minor remedial work (MOT, Cup holder, Front DS Brake shield and Brake lines)
The front bumper was not refitted properly, so he knocked off £250, and that was the most he would budge.
Insurance is half the price of my GTD commuter, but tax is almost double.
Car is due an inspection 1, and some new rear tyres (MOT Advisory)
I plan to do the following straight way:
Inspection 1 and have the lower cam shells replaced as a precaution. I have read a lot about them on the S54 engine.
Swap out to CSL 182" alloys.
Cost:
alloys £500
2 x Rear tyres £250
INS1 and Cam bearings £150
Questions:
Are my prices realistic for service at an Indi?
The allows at 18 inch, are staggered: 8 front and 8.5 at the rear?
Link to the ones I have chosen: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/it ... ger_banner
Pictures attached reg is YK07OZE, previously based in Yorkshire if anyone is knows with the car, or previous forum person?

£150 for Ins1 must be a typo , more like £400 + £850ish for bearing shells

Lovely looking car, I’m sure you will enjoy it!
I’m surprised it’s cheaper to insure than a gtd (golf?). That’s definitely a plus!
I think you’ll struggle to get a inspection 1 and the cam shells done properly for £150. I would say add a zero to that and you’d be closer but I’m sure someone who’s done similar will be along soon.
The csl wheel really suits the coupe but I’d personally only change the 224’s on the car, for genuine 19 Csl’s. Swapping the wheels you’ve got for 18” reps would be a downgrade imo.

Hi and welcome to the forum Dan.
I bought my MC in December and had an Inspection 2 done in April by Ross (Bowser134 on here). Based on that I'd be surprised if you got a proper Inspection 1 done for less than £500. That's because Inspection services include checking the valve clearances on a cold engine and adding shims if required - these engines don't have hydraulic lifters.
I'm now thinking I probably should have had the crank rod bearing shells done at the same time. Getting those replaced and new engine mounts is looking like another £1,000 or so! But they won't need doing again (my car is on 77K miles).
Despite all that I still love it!
My car came fitted with JWL 19" CSL Replicas, which are exactly the same sizes and offsets as genuine CSLs, but I'm thinking I may prefer 18s. I don't suppose you'd fancy a swap?

Congrats! Are you sure the darker rear windows aren’t the quite common factory option?

I was very close to buying this car but a few things put me off, Steven was the private seller before he traded it in for the XKR. I might still have his number and all the information he sent to me if you need it.

Lovely looking car. Take it to an experienced independent who has worked on S54 engines regularly, but don’t be surprised if your inspection bill comes to more than £1000. There’s a few things that might well need replacing at this age. Unfortunately it’s not a car to run cheap, but you’ll have zero depreciation, so you’re winning overall!
Enjoy!
Enjoy!

Dan's New Z4M Coupe!
Morning all,
firstly my type, I believe £1000 for Cam shells and about £400-£500 for an INS 1. My local indy is RL motors and the did some previous work on my F11. Also the owner is my neighbours best mate.
Nick, if I could pick your brains that would be helpful? I did spot a gap of 5 years and 40k in the BMW service log, but a subsequent check of the paperwork / receipts had evidence of servicing and work. Although not at BMW. The last BMW work was Feb 21019 which was a service 2. and a MOT this July which had break lines and a few cosmetics done. The rear tyres were picked up as an advisory so I recon £260 for a pair of MPSS.
I have seen a few at £19k to £ 20k, they are mostly at 40k to 50k, with full BMWSH. The remainder at £15k, and a few at £12k sitting at 110k plus.

Hi Mr Tidy,
Thanks for the offer, but I'd like to try and stay with 18s. Not that I have the car yet to make that decision. But I like the look of CSLs on these cars. Just not sure if Bright Silver of Gun metal silver...

Your car your choice but after seeing thousands of Zs pass through the forum fittng 18inch CSL reps to any ZM is not going to end well
Apex Arcs could be your answer for 18s or try 19s CSL (reps or gen) & get the right rubber you won't necessarily feel the larger sized wheels

As others have said, I looked for 18 CSL reps for a while in the correct offsets for the M and didn’t find any apart from Arc Apex, which are not cheap but a great wheel.
Better off looking for a different style if you want to stay 18” or get Arc wheels. Failing that go 19”, apart from more expensive rubber I’ve not had any issues plus you can get the right offsets with no fettling off the bat.

Z4MR - Gruppe M, Bilstein PSS10, CSL's + 18" CSL reps with semi's, RTAB Limiters, Powerflex’d, PF Camber Arms, K-Sport BBK / RSL-29, GC Camber Plates, Strut Brace, Exhaust valves, custom brake cooling, complete underside refresh!

No problem - it was just a thought!
I had a quick look at the vendor's website and it says your car has the optional Sun Protection Glass so I think that will explain the tint on the windows - and BTW welcome from elsewhere!
My car also has that option for the glass.
