M badges replacement Group Buy

Post by wonkydonkey » Sat May 23, 2020 9:12 pm

All three old badges removed today and new items applied, and I'm very happy with the results - particularly as they cost under £13 for the lot! Glad to get the old ones off as they were faded decals stuck onto the silver badge body. Even if I have to replace these annually, I'm more than satisfied with them as a solution.

Delete if not the right place for it... but does anyone know of a cost effective way to get a set of genuine complete badges? I got rid of mine and replaced with nice (but ultimately non-oem) versions still of the correct dimensions.

I’d really like to get a new set of badges but they’re just extortionate from BMW 😩.

Photo to demonstrate my predicament 😅

Only just noticed I’d done the same as you man... I really like them, but if you have the old set I’d happily take them off your hands 😇

JoshsZ4M I'm keeping the old ones in case some good quality decals come out in the future, but I have no desire to pay BMW 15 times what I paid for my eBay specials for something that won't really stand out :)

wonkydonkey, fair play, worth an ask ☺️☺️ I didn’t really realise how much of an ass it would then be to get oem ones, or indeed how reasonably available transfers would be 👍

JoshsZ4M I actually much prefer my painted badges to the decal items. I think the OEM badges are decals, aren't they?

wonkydonkey, yeah I think we must have bought the same painted ones on the Bay :) .... I do really like them, but there’s a small part of me that wishes I’d kept the OEM with new transfers 😔

Got to be honest. Although I'm sure high quality they just don't look right and why would they be indented when not a single M badge ever made has been... just doesn't look right to me.

The quality of the OEM badges isn't the problem its that they used laminated paper instead of vinyl, sorting them is literally pealing the old one off and reapplying a new one.

The painted/non original ones make the originals look cheap in the pics above.
Im all for keeping things standard but the replacements look better.

This is my thinking too. I can see why people would want to keep things original, but when I have access to parts that (in my opinion) look better than the originals AND they're many times cheaper, I'm more than happy to steer away from OEM.

Great to hear your take on it guys, I do like the non-OEM for the same reason as I think they actually look really smart 🙃🙃🙃 I’ve just got that horrible OEM itch which I really should just shake off 🤣

These look really good - ours are a bit tatty but I didn't see this earlier and I am amazed at how cheap they are.

The lad up the road has a chavved up/down 1990s diesel 3 series with some on. I wonder how long it would take for him to notice if I replaced the passenger and rear ones but fitted them upside down :)

UPDATE: M badges replacement Group Buy

Post by Attilio » Thu Jun 04, 2020 2:43 pm

Hello there,

The sample badges have finally arrived: delivered to my door earlier today...

I received 2 full set: one chrome (like the OEM) and one black. I personally think they look very good and if the price is close enough to the original estimate (below) I will definitely go ahead and get myself 2 sets (of the chrome ones since my Z4 is Interlagos blue / prefer the OEM look). I took a few pictures, including some on the car close to the original (and faded) ones; see below:

Let me know you think and, most importantly, if you are still interested - I have 29 people who expressed initial interest and when we have firm numbers we will organize the order.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Attilio

Thanks Attilio, they look pretty good.

Unfortunately, I couldn't wait any longer and have already fitted black badges all round, so can remove me from the bulk buy
