If it helps I had modded back boxes removed back to standard in favour of an Evolve filter. I’m over the moon with the induction noise It’s so intoxicating, absolutely nothing at tick over but when you press the accelerator the noise just gets better and better the harder you accelerate.

Thanks, that confirms my thoughts and helps a lot. So, Evolve over other makes for you I'm guessing. Did you consider the other makes out there?
Thanks

Porsche ownership is a strange one, very special cars to own (especially the 911) but there is a noticeable paranioa weighing on the mind :(
This is precisely why I wouldn't touch an older 911. :(
Oddly enough, this is why I choose my Z4MR over a new Boxster S or a late 90's early 00's 911. I'm not a big fan of the brand as I'm a big Ferrari fanboy from a very young age due to Mansell driving for them, but loosing the back of a mid or rear engine car really puts me off them. Also I was worried the cost of ownership was going to easily eclipse even M ownership.

But the reality is that a carbon airbox costs much more than an aftermarket or custom backbox.

Not to mention if you do it properly you have to remap the car which is something most enthusiasts wouldn’t exactly be keen on.

I accept that the likes of Eventuri and Gruppe M offer that halfway house between stock airbox and CSL carbon box however they’re massively overpriced and can also decrease performance due to heat soak.

As I maintain the stock box is good enough. If you want more roar buy a CSL.
I couldn't agree less, but as its opinion and personal preference we'll agree to disagree. If you like stock then you've saved some money at least!

Obviously a full carbon airbox setup is more expensive than an exhaust set up but the half way houses, which I would suggest are more than halfway - around 70% sound wise or so of a carbon set up, are much less than an decent branded exhaust. Not sure what enthusiasts not being keen on a remap means...

Exhausts to me don't sound that distinctive on these (not bad, just not as distinctive), the induction sound however much more so.
can also decrease performance due to heat soak.
Slightly spurious generic statement, like saying an exhaust upgrade can decrease performance due to back pressure loss. I've never had any issues personally, which is the only information I can offer on that. I would *imagine* though the loses are so minimal if they do exist wouldn't lose any sleep over it or really even notice, I guess mileage may vary with that depending how sensitive you are to differences.

Either way, both are good upgrades, not worth arguing about. All down to personal preference and what people deem as value for money, no real cheap upgrades on these sadly.
I thought the carbon airboxes were copies of a CSL's airbox?

I remember when an old E30 buddy got himself a 320is , he had an carbon airbox on it's S14 and when he took me out in it I was stunned at how much more the S14 really sounded like a race derived engine.

I am a real OEM junkie most of the time, but I really want to add to my MR a little bit. I want OZ Rallies as I dislike my standard wheels and I would prefer to use stainless steel for any replacement exhaust parts I need.

The only other one I considered was the Gruppe M which apparently is very good and of a similar price. I decided on the Evolve intake primarily on three things, availability in the UK, price & performance. I’ve not heard a Gruppe in the flesh only on videos so can’t really give a true comparison although from video footage I suspect they are very similar sound wise.
I’m frilled with my choice & so pleased I purchased it.
If you do purchase one be sure to notify your insurance.

Thanks for the response. I didn't consider the insurance angle but now you mention it it does make sense. Did it effect your insurance price? I think I definitely go for this mod. Also need to start a thread about SatNav upgrade and suspension tweaks for road and some track - probably mod in this order.

It did affect my insurance a marginally, nothing to loose sleep over though.

Ins2 was carried out last week without any concerns or recommendations for further work so it was time to have the wheels refurbed .
Genuine CSLs i wanted a bespoke finish 8) chemically stripped , powdercoated black then wet painted chrome over before a clear lacquer bake in the oven .
I like them though appreciate many might prefer the stock factory silver finish
Tyres should be on over the weekend :driving: then its roof motor to sort & front bumper to get repainted .
