Wheel hubs

Post by Allan280 » Tue Dec 10, 2019 8:54 am

Hi
I am in the process of improving the finish of my wheels ,powder coated ,refinishing wheel nuts etc and I am looking at the wheel hubs and wondering the best option to refinish them.
I have read that they are aluminium is this correct ? The hubs are not bad they just need tidying up a bit has anybody refinished these before
ie abraded them and repainted them. If repainted what paint was used ?

Guessing you mean the inner part of the brake disc that goes rusty.

Ideally treat with a rust proof primer then spray with a high heat paint (Masking the pad surface area)

If you mean the bells, then yes they are ally.

You can rub them down to remove any oxidisation, but you’ll have to keep doing that. You always get them anodised to protect the surface a bit longer, or the easiest option (at the current prices) may be to buy a new set of disks.

Can you make out the silver painted part of the disc inboard of the wheel? That’s the bell/carrier/hub on some cars they’re part of the disc and made from the same cast iron material which rusts like crazy unless painted

OP, is this for a Z4M? We’re in the “M” section.

If so, they’re aluminium; if not, they are probably (but not definitely) iron.
