Best way to sell a Z4MC quickly?

Post by DevonPaul » Mon Sep 30, 2019 12:05 pm

We're looking at a house purchase which is advertised over our budget. Selling the MC would bridge a large part of the gap and also reduce monthly outgoings, and as we already have other cars it is not getting the use it deserves.

Obviously the vendor may realise their asking price is unrealistic and see sense and accept our offer (or as they see it the buyers stop taking the proverbial and offer something that is nearer the value of the property :) ) and so the gap will vanish, but if not then we might be able to reduce the gap and want to get rid of the car before the end of Nov.

It is 56 plate, 43000 miles, FSH plus we've had an oil service each year for the last few years. The NSR wheel was kerbed last week when someone cut across in front of my wife, and there's a steering gaiter needs replacing as it was advisory on the MOT.

Currently we need to find 20k which seems coincidentally about what adverts suggest is fair, but at this time of year things can linger. Any suggestions for auctions/ebay/sell to a trader?

Obviously WBAC are somewhat low in their valuation for the car.

Thanks

Paul

It’s never a good time to sell a car when you are desperate to sell within a few weeks, all I can suggest is to get the wheel refurbished and the gaiter changed then take plenty of photos and do a really good write up for the add and list it on here, eBay and Auto trader ASAP and see what interest you get, unfortunately it’s probably the worst time to try and sell at the moment.

Sometimes a dealers will buy it straight off you, worth phoning around a few see if there's any interest?

As above, unfortunately, it really is a buyers market at this time of year. As was with my purchase, for a lot of people this will not be an only car so is likely to be garaged until next year so quite a few will not be looking.

£20K seems very unrealistic with what is selling at the moment so I would guess it will sit for a while so either just bite the bullet and advertise it at a price to sell WBAC will look at £7000 ish at a guess but to sell 12K (again just a guess) or keep it and try and raise the moeny another way.

WBAC will surely pay more than £9k for a Z4MC?

I would say £20k is a good price to be honest, would be a good buy for someone at that price

WBAC are only interested in mainstream auction fodder . The op may be best off putting the car through an auction himself if he really wants a quick sale . You can put a reserve on it and see what happens , you may have a couple of interested traders stood in front of it .
That said , the only real way to sell a car quickly is price it as a bargain for someone , be it private or trade .
Whenever I've sold cars in the past I've been finished with them and want them gone so I've always priced at the cheapest end of what's available and they go quickly and I move onto the next thing , I've no problem selling cheaply so I can move on .

Purely out of interest, i just put my 65k, 3 owner, Z4m coupe through a WBAC valuation and it gave a value of £13750, so no idea where the figures of 7k are coming from? :?
Albiet still below what you are after, id imagine a low mileage example such as yours would be offered more than that, sounds like a 20k car all day...

I sold my car a month or so ago.

Advertising on here didn't work, lots of nice comments but no proper interest.

Advertising on autotrader resulted in loads of timewasters. To be fair i was not in a desperate hurry to sell and was happy to wait for the right buyer.

One serious buyer was put off by the fact it had been a daily driver and, although in good overall condition, the paintwork was significantly swirly and the front bumper stone chipped. He quite fairly made the point that if you want top end money for a 12 year old car it needs to be in top end condition. Its not good enough to just be in ok condition as they are now collectors cars.

After that visit, I had the front bumper resprayed and the paint corrected and ceramic coated.

Even with the improvements, there was minimal interest at the advertised price of £21k advertised on here and on autotrader.

Eventually, i got bored with waiting and I re advertised it on ebay for £19.5k and took a deposit over the phone around 5 days later based on an advert with lots of photos and a walkround video.

If i were in your shoes and needed to sell quickly, i'd get the steering gaiter and wheel fixed and advertise on ebay classifieds for around £18-18.5k.

Op. If your still at the negotiating stage of a house purchase you don't need to raise funds off the car for another 3 months or so , even if it's a chain free sale , at least it gives you breathing space for a sale at a decent price as the car you describe sounds worth a lot more than bombing it out cheap .
You've got Xmas on the horizon so you could easily spin the house purchase out a month longer .
