35is Pulled 15 Car Lengths on an M?

Post by sunnydays » Sun Aug 11, 2019 7:59 pm

Judging by the responses here it seems like its not a surprise that the 35is driver put 15 car lengths on the Z4M. I spoke to my friend, and he actually said he only went 75% throttle when he smoked the Z4M.

Anyhow, both great cars :)

0.4s difference, where the manual Z4M was driven by a professional driver at the strip.
There is much less variance in drag times for an Auto vs the manual which depends on the driver

Sooooo you were hitting speeds much higher than 0-60 I’m guessing?
I could not see the speedo as my mate was driving. All I could see was the Z4M driver behind us with his head between his hands after defeat, and his misses consoling him

She was probably hitting him round the head ... probably why he eased off :poke:

It’s probably about right if you’re going north of the speeds you get at 1/4 mile. :!:

Not sure why some find the claim so surprising :? id like to see the actual distance difference but In real world drivers ( ie most of us on the forum ) id wager my weeks wages on beating a ZM to 60 in a Z Si auto  & a months wages on doing it with a 35is
As z4m-2006 already stated above , the S54 really needs to be worked hard to get a buzz on & getting to 60 fast isn't the easiest of cars to achieve it with .
With a DCT any numpty just floors it & hangs on to the wheel  with torque & turbos how will your average clutch & 6 speed match that

Not having raced a z4m, I must admit that with the DCT transmission certainly in sport mode is very quick and doesn’t require any skill in getting the best from it and as said is simply a question of hanging on, although I must also admit I do find it an absolute pleasure to drive

Good thing is though both cars can be made better if that’s what you want. Personally I wouldn’t do anything to the M engine, it’s too awesome to muck about with with superchargers unless you want mega power, best left stock imo but fiddle with the geo, springs, struts, bushes, mounts etc etc, we all know the route. Not been there yet myself but it would seem you can do something decent to the E89 too, M3 arms, anti roll bars, springs struts etc.

Makes for an interesting hobby, I like upgrading and both cars respond well to it, win win which ever car you want I reckon. :driving:

15 car lengths tells everything, the ///M wasn’t trying.

I would say both cars are comparable, I have a 335i E93 so I can compare.

Coming home from Tavistock this evening I had a Ford Focus RS behind me. I floored it through the Twisties to Gunnislake. Actually managed to pull away a good few car lengths. :D :driving:

Halereous thing was, I was driving my Mazda2.  :D Enough said.
