I can't recommend Lloyd BMW in Colne enough, I make a 450 mile round trip for my inspection 2 there

Edit to add, is the wobble feeling through the steering or brake pedal? Warped discs feels more like a hard vibration, wobble will be bushes...
WoW that's some hike for a service  & just 5 miles away from me
Been going there 15+ years, won't go anywhere else unless it's simple stuff!

Didn't realise you were up that way, next time I'm visiting in the zed I'll let you know

The vibration is through the steering wheel and progressive the harder you press the pedal, doesn't vibrate at all unless im on the brake, cruises really nicely. That being said I dont think its had any suspension work so it very well could be a bushing, doubt its wheel balance as it would vibrate at speed progressively.

Its not that bad really but I had a sticky calliper in the last M and it went from ok to un-drivable very quickly so would rather it get diagnosed so it doesn't happen while the GF is in it
Worth asking, sometimes they aren't too much different, they have always done me well anywayb

Interesting on the vibration, sure you can't feel it in the pedal? Try driving bare foot (on a private road obviously) if it's a disc you'll feel it even under the lightest of braking then... 8)
Tbh I can feel it through the pedal, steering wheel and generally through the car but like said its under harder braking not pootling around.

It could be anything need to have it looked at really by someone who knows what they are looking for. Will update

I was wondering if anyone has some advice on a good reputable Indy in Manchester. Im based between Salford and Trafford and have done a quick google search and these have popped up.

https://www.thebavarians.co.uk/

These are 2 mins down the road so would be convenient although they seem to deal in much higher end gear so was curious on price.

Not too far away,

Anyone have any experience or any others to add?

Got a wobble under hard breaking but it cruises fine, the dealer that had the car skimmed as the previous owner mentioned the issue. I think one of the disks is warped as I had this on my last M too. The dealer didnt think they needed replacing but they only warp when they get thin? Skimming probably hasnt aided this. Would like to get this checked out as the suspension is old and wonder if there is some wear to any of the bushings. Warping is rare and I know the issue could be related to a few things.

Also got a couple of other things to sort, the xenon headlight washer pipe needs replacing and the alarm sensor under the hood is setting the alarm off.

Would like to get these issues fixed in the next few weeks
Tom, have you taken the car out and given the brakes a really really hard time? I had a wobble on my last M, I thought the discs were warped but they just needed a good hammering. You can’t nanny these discs, you have to use them hard occasionly. After I’d done a few really hard stops from ‘legal’ speeds they cleaned up perfectly, had no more issues. It even says in the M specific separate handbook to use the brakes properly.

Well worth a try before you go booking it in.

Turned out to be warped disks so had the front disks and pads done. Had a health check done and there are a few other little issues so waiting for parts to be delivered and having an oil service just for piece of mind. Picking it up on Tuesday.

I ended up taking it to The Bavarians and they sit in the Project Three Group. Called, had it in 2 days later and called the next day to go through the issues and cost. Really convenient just near Old trafford near where I work. Guys were great and went through a complete check with me which inspired confidence.

Tried for get it into Darren Wood but they couldn’t get it in for 6 weeks and the guy was really unhelpful and not interested on the phone so decided not to go there.

I will be.

Its just turned over 65k, plan to do them at around 80k. That might be sooner than later as I plan to drive the car as much as possible. At the same time will probably do a mini refresh of suspension bushes and mounts etc

The cars got really good history and has been over serviced with two fastidious owners I know pretty well so its not a big worry really. I will give it interim oil changes every 12 months for piece of mind

Just to update.

Got the car back last night. Had the below done:
  • Health Check (basically a pre purchase inspection, new car to me wanted to know of any possible issues none found  )
  • Front disks and pads - Sorted the wobble which is great! - The disks were skimmed but was told with them being warped the material was thinner where warped and they had not done a good job skimming them as they were at the markers so basically nakard anyway. Why they bothered... who knows just made it worse.
  • Oil change (Not done long ago but when at temp the level was a little above max so had it done)
  • Washer fluid pump (Was told it was a pipe missing but it was just the overflow pipe. The problem was a duff pump reading no volts so no squirt! :D )
Charged me 4 1/2 hours labour which I thought was rather good! Would recommend Project Three they were very thorough and conscientious. Although a BMW specialist they seemed to be quite taken with the car which was nice.

Alarm sensor under the bonnet... they couldn't figure this out assuming it needs a new sensor but instead of wasting the labour diagnosing it im going to leave it for now. Will buy a new one and fit it myself seems straight forward!

Cars now good to go! Nice to know the car is good mechanically now the modding begins!

The car is a credit to the previous owners in that respect all the above are just wearable items. Really chuffed with it and how much car you get with these. Being 13 years old it certainly doesnt feel like a dinosaur. The 996 is 2 years older and certainly drives and feels like it came from a different era.

I bought some extended leather items from Yorkie Z the other day so looking forward to fitting. I have my OEM CSLs to put on with new centre caps and OEM dust covers! Thoughts to the future would like to add a Group M and some Aero Skirts but they seem to be difficult to find these days... Also want to do a full paint restoration and ceramic coat. The roof has 4 little tears two on each side in the usual places where the roof folds, seems to be fine from a water ingress perspective but a new roof will probably on the cards down the road. Unless anyone has any thoughts? Can you seal or is it an pull off and seal under job? Its going to be garaged anyway but looks unsightly so would like to have it sorted.

Mechanically as above, I would like to do a suspension refresh with bushes, mounts and bearings. Will do at 80k which will probably be in about 2 years time.

I also have the Gaptech installed but the wires are crimped not soldiered so its intermittent, im not great with these things. If anyone in the North West has any experience and could help then im sure a few crates of beer and some Z banter wouldn't go amiss

Once ive got CSLs and Leather installed will get a few pics up.

Just get a hardtop Tom - sorted for winter and you're halfway back to your old Coupe. Come next summer, you will just have the top down anyway...

Are shell bearings an issue with the S54? Mine has done 79k runs very well. I also have an M3 E92, S85 engine, and they do not seem to have a good record on longevity for their shells.
