3 weeks in, Photos and list of jobs!

Post by MichaelPorter80 » Sat Jun 08, 2019 9:50 pm

After pulling the trigger on the Z4M 3 weeks ago, I’ve been busy! Still a couple of things left to do, but so happy with the results so far!

To Do:
- new M badges (on their way, so expensive but needed)
- exhaust tips clean and polish, I just don’t have the right gear and I don’t think they’ve been done since new.
- new windscreen, a few chips and the top seal is going, but not super urgent.
- little worried about some mechanical clunking when depressing the clutch at slow speed... will have it looked at
- washer bottle leaking, no idea where the leak is so need to test and repair

Done
- Inspection 2 at Iridium in Hampshire (recommended) car “very clean” all shims good, seems a fine example! For 54,000 miles 06 plate
- learned what Shims are!!
- new Bonnet Badge
- full wheel refurb
- new tyres
- deep wash, (took 3 hours) including door jam degrease and re-dress
- hand polished with Motor Show polish
- zymol Carnuaba Wax
- bead maker paint protection
- megiuar’s quick detailer (just before photos)
- rubber redress & protection
- meguairs ultimate black on exterior trim
- full interior clean, vacuum, dust, wash & dress
- leather clean with the Furniture Clinic cleaning kit and dress & condition with colour match leather cream
- roof clean and prep with 303 convertible top care kit (took 3 cleans to get it clean
- install GROM BT3 after disconnecting CD Changer (could have happily killed someone at this point) also had to update the software to stop it giving track names as it forced the Nav screen up constantly very annoying!
- Ran USB socket and charging cable through behind ash tray trim (very neat)
- Brodit Pro clip & Mount

And that’s it! Photos below;

That really is an epic list! Hats off to you, a gorgeous looking M

On the subject of number plates, I really can't see a good reason for owners going to the bother of hiding them :scratchhead:

I believe that mechnical sound when depressing the clutch pedal is quite normal. Mine has always done it and I've heard others doing it as well.

Thanks this gives me some comfort; it almost sounds like it’s coming from the diff behind me... doesn’t sound “broken” or anything just wanted to check whether others had heard it. Thanks again.

I was going to say the same as Polarbert Micheal, M’s are pretty clunky, especially when cold, compared to more modern cars but it’s normal, unless there is excessive play in the driveshaft. They can clunk a little causing concern but again it’s normal for these, I think you’d really notice it if there was a problem with the diff, for example on every gear change, if it’s not doing that then it sounds perfectly normal.

Happy M’ing.... :driving:

Edit: Said ‘normal’ far too many times in that post......damnit.....did it again....

I was lucky enough to see your car last Sunday at the Black Swan - it looks fantastic.

It must be a bit "exciting" after a 2 litre - enjoy! :driving:

Same with mine. It was already doing ever since i got it with 24k miles. Very common. I always press the clutch just before stopping the engine to prevent my mechanical OCD-ness from wanting to spend a fortune on fixing nothing wrong.
