ICV - a quick question

Post by Spaniarduk » Tue Apr 16, 2019 8:39 am

Hello everyone.
I'm looking for advice re the ICV in my S54 engine. I've removed to check the state of it. It'sclean as a wistle. However I find that it's not completely closed. Is that how it's supposed to be at rest??
It does do the usual knocking sounds like a castanet when i rapidly turn it in my hand from left to right.

ICV - a quick question

If you rotate it/move it around it should open and close freely. If it does not move at all, it may be stuck. At least compared to mine. Someone might be able to confirm.

Gustavo7, it moves freely. My question is to do with the fact that i had assumed that when not activated it would be either completely close or completely open. Mine is resting half way through the range of movement. Is this how it should be or is mine at fault?

I believe the default state is slightly open so that in the event of a fault it will allow some air to flow, preventing the engine from stalling at idle.
