Carbon fibre Z4M bonnet

Post by beanie » Mon Apr 01, 2019 5:32 pm

Just noticed a post on m3cutters where CA automotive have shown pictures of a Z4M bonnet in pre preg carbon fibre. I’ve asked a couple of questions to get a bit more info but thought it might be of interest to some.

https://forums.m3cutters.co.uk/threads/ ... st-2751410

Be interesting to see what kind of weight savings it offers

That’s a beautiful thing. A new OEM hood costs £850 without paint, so you could kind of justify this if you were doing the carbon thing.

I suppose when you consider how much a CSL style airbox costs, this doesn't look so bad on a price per pound basis!

Does anyone know the weight of the standard bonnet? I'm sure it's been discussed on here before

It’s about 10kg.

Looks nice, but why doesn't it have the cross bracing? Mine has it AND its flimsy as s**t. This would be like waving a sheet of paper in the wind.

Worked out to be about the same price as the Varis one... not sure why this would be a better choice. Since it was for a track build, surely hood vents would help?

Probably cheaper shipping? Japan is exy to ship from. Save 20 percent on building it local. That makes sense.. No cross bracing doesn't.
