I think I’m going to stick mine through insp ll in April, although it does look like I over service mine :tumbleweed:

My quote was around the same. They seem to have got rid of the “value service” for the older cars. The fixed price was WAY cheaper a few years ago. I find it really hard to stomach handing this amount over to the main dealer but like you , I’m there for the stamps and my extended warranty.

I’m guessing for you, it’s Dick Lovett Hungerford? Or are you thinking Coopers reading?

Tom, you still get a stamp from a BMW specialist. I paid £750 for mine at ETA by Brands Hatch and will use them going forward. Have a shop around

Actually would be Sunningdale since that’s near my work. Worth me repricing with another dealer tho.

Excuse my ignorance, but what is 'standard scope'?

Does that include, diff and gearbox oil change? A lot more that I paid at an Indie either way. I would shop around.

BMW seem to apply their new service schedule to the older cars, so as buzyg points out I would check exactly what service they are doing as they should be quoting you a "Service 2", not "Engine oil service with microfilter, air filter & spark plugs"

But like lynchy I'd find a local specialist who probably deals with the S54 engine on a more daily basis than a main dealer who won't see them that often and probably have less knowledge now.

Anybody buying these cars based on BMW stamps alone doesn't really understand servicing IMO as a BMW stamp isn't worth the paper it's written on any more than a good Indy.

I was quoted a similar price from my local BMW garage, somewhere around 1250/1300 I think.

But then I got a quote from A Reeve Performance in Kings Lynn for £650 with gearbox/diff oil and valve clearances, so I'll be going there when the time comes

Last time I got any Inspection done at BMW, it was £850 for an Insp.I and £1350 for an Insp.II.

They simply didn't understand why I was querying an extra £500 for spark plugs and diff/gearbox oil.

That’s a very fair response Steve - thanks.

So any recommended Indy’s near Newbury? Or Bracknell. Ideally somewhere who will loan me a car.

Lol. It’s almost like the price hike is to prevent our business.

Take it to TWG Camberley. They have a loaner mini but you have to book a bit in advance to get it. Excellent indie though. Highly respected. Look after my Z. There's nearly always an S54 engined car on the ramps whenever I go there. Will and team really know their stuff.

Yes, another vote for TWG in Camberley.

Thanks guys for the TWG vote! Booked in with them for late March for Insp 2 and brake fluid change (£649 total) which is due also since it’s been 2 years. He was very reassuring on the phone and talked thorough how the process would work ie due the shims the next morning etc.

I’ve also asked them to have a good poke around since it’s still under extended warranty and I want to see if I can take advantage of anything as I am considering stopping it after this service and just banking the money to one side. I do less than 1000 Miles a year in it these days also.

Iridium and also grovenor came in a reasonable distance from me. Any experience with these guys? Iridium seam good...
