AC Schnitzer E85 M parts advice please?

Post by Felix79 » Fri Feb 01, 2019 8:14 am

Hi guys,

as some of you might remember, over X-Mas, the bracket/joint/clamp on one of my back boxes rotted away, as well as the lip being a bit worse for wear, which ended up with a garage making a new joint/clamp on the effected section. I know it's likely some time this year I will have to replace the back sections with my M.

I've been looking at the AC Schnitzer E85 M back boxes, some of the wheels (the larger 5 spoke wheels, rather than the thine ones they did for the Z4) and the suspension sets. I've never really had much interaction with their products, bar the odd bit see on E30 members cars and I nearly got an E36 that had a ton of stuff on years ago. They can be very Marmite and I think they exhaust systems they do are actually the most tasteful thing they make. Has anyone got or have any experience with these bits for the M? I don't want a loud exhaust, but if it would just liven things up when I'm up in the rev band, I am really interested.

Cheers,

Felix

That's the ones that I've come across yeah. I agree with the sentiment above that the other M back boxes with the square tips don't suit the M's rear that well.

The only reason I was looking at their stuff was that I noticed the previous owner of my M had put their pedal set on my car, which got me curious about the other items they produced. I had always liked the exhaust back boxes they made for the E36's and I'm wondering if any people have come across an M with them. I can only fine a really short clip of an E86 M pulling away with the "ACS" back boxes like the ones Truth has posted.

I've been chatting to a few other members in the M section about altering the suspension on my M, so it's better suited for spirited road use, rather than track focused. I want the have the rear be a bit more complaint (softer) so the rear doesn't want to skip so much on really bumpy B roads, that surround Oxford. I noticed on the pics of AC's test car, that even with their adjustable suspension, the ride height looked the same.

I've discovered they have done some wheel designs that are similar to the M's standard wheels, but the spokes are thicker, which would give what I would label a OEM+ look.

I think I remember someone saying that the ACS back boxes are Remus boxes with different tips. If so, I have the Remus boxes and they sound brilliant, with no drone and pass track day noise limits.

Z4MC - heavily fettled for track use
Lotus Exige - sensible daily driver on the mods slippery slope
Westfield SEiW - in hibernation
Modified RS4 Avant - back in Blighty

That's is brilliant! I now know they can at least be viable for life in the car hating city that is Oxford!

Hopefully someone else will post soon confirming my thoughts and supporting my dodgy memory! If not, perhaps send emails to both ACS and Remus...

Do you think I would be able to get a new one, or would it be NOS or 2nd hand route to get one?

I think Remus still make their back boxes, I’m not sure about ACS though.

Think you're right about ACS being same as Remus apart from the rather ghastly tips, at least according to this quite definitive exhaust thread from over the pond https://www.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1078199
