£612 for an oil service? I think not

Post by Felix79 » Thu Jan 17, 2019 4:18 pm

I am lucky a very good Indi BMW garage is very close to my home. Guy called "Mark Purcell" . He use to look after my old mans E46 M3 Cab.

When the stupid bracket broke on my exhaust t'other week, dad phoned Mark up last min of the day and he looked at what was causing the issue. He had a quick look over my "M" and told dad it looked a pretty clean example. He was told that we wanted him to look after it, which is why he made some time so we knew what to tell the dealer what needed fixing.

On the M4 BMW quote £151 for just an oil service. So that’s probably about right for an Indy on a E89

How much oil does the S55 engine take?
7 litres for an oil service.
That doesn’t make any sense

An S55 engine takes an extra 1.5 litres of 10w60 oil than a S54 engine, yet the price of an oil service is £49 cheaper than Z4M and £135 cheaper than E46 M3.

Does the s55 use a different, more expensive grade of oil to the s54?

That sounds a bit on the low side.
Sounds reasonable to me. :D

The business has been going in Bradford since 1980. Originally the father and now run by the son so I guess they know what they are doing by now.

I thought the E89 had the N54 in not the S55 ?

If so the N54 wouldnt need 10w60 oil so would be much cheaper.

My engine is the N52. The oil the garage uses is LIQUI MOLY TOP TEC 4605.

I believe the S55 was in relation to the engine in my car.

Nope, it uses BMW M-Twin Power Turbo, which is no different to Shell Helix Ultra Racing 10w60.

The Castrol Edge (formerly “TWS”) which I put in my car or any other good quality 10w60 oil will suffice.

Even if it did the S55 needs more oil for its service but it’s cheaper.

Some strangers goings on with BMW, aren’t they susposed to offer discounted services on cars 4 plus years old?

I’m also now wondering whether there is a difference in price for oil services on F80 M3, F8X M4 and M2 Competition... :?

£612 for an oil service? I think not

Post by firebobby » Thu Jan 17, 2019 8:02 pm

I do my own oil services, for lot less than quoted. I know that I have got as much of the old oil as out as possible and the filter has been changed too.

£612 for an oil service? I think not

Zedtastic wrote: Thu Jan 17, 2019 2:47 pm So a main dealer quotes £612 for just an oil service - that sounds plain crazy.

Cooper Chelmsford quoted me £395 (inc VAT) for an Inspection 2. Initially they quoted £629 over the phone, but then £395 when I got there and spoke to the service guy in person - go figure!
Looking at your signature it will be do to not owning and ///M and having to pay the associated tax.
