£612 for an oil service? I think not
I was going to keep my service history full BMW, but at £612 for an oil service at Sytner, I don't think so. Apparently, BMW don't offer an oil service, even tho that is what my car says it wants. Bye bye BMW.......hello Autobhan Halesowen, my local indi.
Now gone.......Z4MR. 2007. Boring silver.

£612 for an oil service? I think not
It was for Oil and micro filter. It would be £200 if i went against BMW advice and just changed the oil. I started to argue that the car had an inspection 1 last time and was due an oil service, as per the laid out service plan......but thought what am I doing? Why argue? Phoned the indi who agreed an oil service was due and quoted £200 for oil and filter, still steep, but they have good reviews and are used to working on the S54. Also, I need to get a relationship going with a local indi for future works.

The operative that you spoke to probably thought you meant Inspection 1 which is about £600 at main dealer.AldridgeZ4 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 17, 2019 12:47 pm I was going to keep my service history full BMW, but at £612 for an oil service at Sytner, I don't think so. An oil service at main dealer is £285.
Most indies will do this for you from £130 - £180.

In fact I’ve just realised that BMW are even bigger thieves than I initially thought.
An oil service for a Z4M is £200, yet an oil service for an E46 M3 is £285.
Both cars share the same engine and take the same amount and grade of oil (5.5 litres of 10w60) so how on earth did they work that one out.

I'm sure you are correct and I tried to explain a few times, but she wouldn't listen. Never mind, hopefully I can develop a good relationship with my indi. I need a few things doing over the next 12/18 months, so it will be good to make contact and have a look around in a couple of weeks.R60BBA wrote: ↑Thu Jan 17, 2019 1:36 pmThe operative that you spoke to probably thought you meant Inspection 1 which is about £600 at main dealer.AldridgeZ4 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 17, 2019 12:47 pm I was going to keep my service history full BMW, but at £612 for an oil service at Sytner, I don't think so. But going forward and with the age of these cars, I wouldn’t trust a main dealer unless I had bought a car from them and it was the same service manager from day one.
It’s good that you’ve found and indie and should no longer have to put up with such farces.

BMW have applied the new service regime to older cars where it's not applicable, which is why we are seeing the anomalies.
Oil might be more for the M3, but they are quoting a dam sight less for an inspection 2. Z4M £1224, M3 £926

So a main dealer quotes £612 for just an oil service - that sounds plain crazy.
Cooper Chelmsford quoted me £395 (inc VAT) for an Inspection 2. Initially they quoted £629 over the phone, but then £395 when I got there and spoke to the service guy in person - go figure!

Some of those prices make your eyes water! I’ve just booked my E89 3.0i for an oil service at an independent in Bradford for £125 all in including VAT.

On the M4 BMW quote £151 for just an oil service. So that’s probably about right for an Indy on a E89
