S54 Engine Hesitation from Idle & Constant Throttle Input

Spaniarduk wrote: ↑Tue Jan 08, 2019 10:08 pm Tcochrane92, excellent news! I feel tempted to spend the 50quid and replace it in mine. I have some hesitation between 2300 and 2800rpm and half throttle. Precisely the rev range where you cruise along.
I'm also planning on doing the valve clearance check in the spring, which I feel it's due at 30k miles.

Keep us posted! πŸ‘
Drove the car again this morning and it feels 100% better. Night and day difference really.
For the sake of 50 quid and 5 mins labour it's well worth it!

These cars have 3 TPS's by the way; one at the front of the engine, one under the intake manifold and the last in the throttle pedal.

Try carparts4less.co.uk same company but cheaper prices as long as you can wait a day or two for delivery
If using carpart4less, go to their homepage where they always have an offer code. Today it is winter19 and gets 13% off everything, tomorrow it could be 10% or 20%

I wanted a battery a while back and it varied by Β£20 over the course of 4 days.

Cheers. I haven't got any issues as described but it seems a common fault so I thought the sake of Β£50 I'd replace it.

Having said that, I just did the s54 version of the throttle reset and I can feel that the response is better. Worth doing I reckon

Do you have a part number for the throttle pedal one mate - I'm assuming you replace the whole assembly?

That youtube link has a different procedure to the on I've used..

http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic ... eset#p2221

The Youtube one looks like it might be for learning full throttle at the pedal sensor.

Incidentally - I ordered the engine top front sensor for Β£47 on Weds evening, arrived Friday morning on free 3-5 day delivery, and installed on Saturday in under 10 mins, which included ar5ing about trying to get a screwdriver that fitted between the unit and the mount plate conveniently blocking access. Fortunately I have a 1/4 inch socket set with a bit holder.

There is an improvement - the initial throttle is more progressive at small openings, which suggests the unit might have had some wear on it (though it looked fine). Before if trying to get out of a sideroad quickly there was a slight pause then it would rev higher than you wanted, meaning you tended to lift slightly then sometimes it bogged down, then a bang as the power came in. Now that is much better.

Even the wife seemed to notice it driving back last night in her work shoes ;)

I forgot to update this thread. Anyone planning on replacing the TPS be aware the screws holding it on appear to be made of putty! Be careful you don't strip them, I couldn't loosen the bottom one so before I stripped the head completely I cut a slot in it with a hacksaw, used slotted screw bit and a it loosened straight away.

The OE manufacturer for the sensors is Hella, Part no. 6PX 008 476-271

I purchased the sensors (x2) from the following website.

https://www.mitcrcmall.com/hella-6px-00 ... 29264.html

Price for both sensors was €46.60 using the 10% off code when paying with MasterCard.
