No, it’s aluminium as is the bonnet.
That’s surprises me, but I'm not near my car at the moment, you tried sticking a magnet on yours, or what makes you say it is ali? If it is indeed aluminium then it most definitely won't be weighing 17kg that is for sure!
Geoff steel seem to think it's steel too, certainly the m3 one I removed was.

No its steel. weighed mine today, its 9 KGS. (mine was 9.0, as it had been painted black) so total weight loss is 7KGS. plus or minus a few grams. Still a pretty darn good weight savings for up top.

My bad for quoting said 17Kgs.. the other pieces on the list are sound though.

Cheers Vanne, that clears that up then. It's definitely a mod on the list... miss my m3 one, they do look good :)

Shame we both never seem to have got the special aluminium edition we've been TOLD they got in Norway :D

Thats right I was misinformed by an old magazine road test.. :)
The old magnet test showed its certainly steel, while the bonnet of course is aluminium.
My bad!

i tell you what after removing the rear boot lid.... my god.. now that does weight something... Easily 35kg in roadster form, if someone developed a carbon lid... this would drop the weight massively !! The stock bonnet is a lovely piece.

Plus has that wonderful engine and throttle response to make up. Having two Mx5s and an MR in the family I can say the MR, despite being the lard arse, changes direction best. :D
I realise i need to get out more,, but what is an MR ?

The Z4 ///M Roadster actually has no Z4 badges any where on it. Just ///M badges. 16 if I recall. :D

Hence both it and the Z3 ///M Roadster are commonly referred to as MR.

Though it is the steering, Brakes, suspension, and that Glorious engine that really make it an ///MR.

Agree my ZMR feels more like my Crombie coat cf to my Eunos which feels more like my Barbour Jacket
However whenever I wear my Crombie it feels rather special in it -bit like my ZMR

it always amused me over the years how much time effort and money people would spend to shave some weight off there bike or car, but did not consider that the vast amount of money they had just spent could easily have been achieved by loosing a few pounds themselves

Remember, Vanne - Adrian Newey just told Cosworth to make the clear lacquer on the plenum of their new V12 an optional extra because it weighs 80grams. Keep fighting.
