Hot start issue

Post by T1berious » Thu Oct 25, 2018 1:40 pm

Hi there,

Anyone suffered from a hot start issue? The only thing I can think of that I've done differently is fill up on V Power.

So its been fine since rebuild but yesterday after driving back, parking up at Marks (say a 5 minute stop) It just wouldn't "catch" left it 5 minutes and then it started.

Anyone had this experience? thought I'd ask before getting it booked in.

Cheers,

Any warning lights or fault codes?

In the old days fuelling issues would have the obvious place to look with hot start problems and fuel pump is worth bearing in mind as well as silly things like malfunctioning fuel tank caps/returns (when it happens remove the cap and see if it releases a substantial vacuum or cure it?), or on these cars MAFF / intake leaks around the flexi hoses are worth a check as previous posts suggest they don't always throw fault codes.

There are lots of other possibles but most should throw a code.

My 3.0Si used to suffer from that when I first got it (in May 2016).

Then it needed a new battery that December and it's been fine ever since!

It might be worth seeing how old the battery is - anyway good luck getting it sorted.

Could this possibly be a valve clearance issue?
If the valve clearances are out of spec, as in too tight, when the engine is warm the valves could be held open slightly.
If this happens it can cause problems with warm starting as it can lower compression.

I have found my car doesn’t fire up so easily on vpower, maybe needing another rotation of the engine to catch. No idea why :?
