A couple of lights on dash

Post by ClubberL » Tue Oct 09, 2018 6:12 pm

Hi All

I have been prepping my car for hibernation. Last weekend i ACF50 the underneath and left it sitting until now
I have just started the car up so i could place it in its Carcoon for the winter
EML and a few other lights popped on. Minimal revs and a bit lumpy
Don't have a coder, wondering if the knowledge out there can help or tell me which coder i need

A couple of lights on dash

Post by MikeMcG » Wed Oct 10, 2018 11:35 am

I (very bizarrely) had all three of these lights appear on mine once as well as the tyre pressure monitor light.
Took the car to the petrol station and checked the tyres, one was low, very low, although not visibly so. After pumping up and re-setting the TPM, all lights disappeared. Had the tyre looked at a day later and the valve was leaking.
Odd, but has never happened again.

So ordered a code reader last night. Left car half on trickle charge over night. Left work at lunch, perks of being self employed.
Got home started the car expecting to be lumpy, only 2 thousand revs and purrs once again with just the engine symbol on the dash and full revs
Feeling better........but not relaxing!

EML light is usually an indication of emissions related problems. I wonder if the ACF50 somehow got into the lambda sensors and caused it to temporarily throw a wobbly? Shouldn't though - ACF50 is normally fine to spray on anything electrical.

Mine started having the symptoms you mention a couple of months ago. Check if the battery is getting charged by the alternator or if it's not getting spikes due to a bad alternator. Mine cooked two batteries before I realised the problem was the alternator. Has even battery acid boiling out though the battery vent!

Very simple to replace the alternator, can be done in less than 30min.

Weird. Probably never happen again but you could calibrate your throttle very easily just to make sure:

1 Place key in ignition and turn ignition on and count for 10 seconds ( only position 2 do not start the engine. )

2.Turn key back to position 0 and count for another 10 seconds

3.Now turn the key all the way to detent 3 to start the engine.

That’s odd! I had this issue after trying to pair my phone with car! Maybe I inadvertently calibrated my throttle?
