M/// shocks and top mounts

Post by Yorkie Z » Tue Aug 07, 2018 4:51 pm

Hi all.

I think my top mounts need replacing, just recently I've heard a knocking noise and I'm pretty sure it's that. While I'm at it I thought I may as well change the shocks. I'm not interested in going down the coilover route but I'm not sure about sticking with OEM either. Also are there any better options for the top mounts??

Any help would be much appreciated

What are the chances

Well between the two of us we should get some info.
BMW quoted me
£207 per shock and £31 per top mount. Then £30ish for bolts and a plastic cover.

I've got a feeling one of you is talking about the rears and one the fronts though? :)

Good point. Yeah it's the rears on mine. Have you got OEM top mounts Tom?

I have rogue ones which are nicely made and if you need to remove the rear shocks there's no need to go removing all the rear trim again.

To be honest if you don't see much need for that I would go with oem. I tried Meyle HD ones a while back and they knocked pretty quickly.

Another vote for RE rear top mounts and for the same reason as Tom

Z4MC - heavily fettled for track use
Lotus Exige - sensible daily driver on the mods slippery slope
Westfield SEiW - in hibernation
Modified RS4 Avant - back in Blighty
