Strut Top Mounts

Post by dan yeates » Tue Aug 07, 2018 4:50 pm

Good afternoon all,

I've got a bit of a knocking coming from the front left, think it's a top mount on the way out. I've got my friend at BMW pricing one up for me, (anyone know roughly what they cost in the meantime?) but are there any recommended alternatives or upgrades that I should be considering?

The car is standard and I'll most likely keep it that way, but if someone says I'd be stupid not to fit xxx upgrade.... then I'd look at them!

Easy job to do, or shall I get it booked in to be done?

Thanks,

Dan

The part that wears out really is the bearing not the rubber guide. They're about £12 from BMW iirc, part number 5 on here.

So, turns out my top mounts were absolutely fine. The strut brace nuts had come loose! It seems it's a common problem after doing some reading online. Check those nuts!

Did you not replace the bearings then? I'm tempted to replace you the bearing but it would be nice to know beforehand it is a fix.

No, I didn't. My friend works at a BMW dealership, they had a look at it and said they were fine!
