Z4M, new plugs, have only been in for some 50 miles but somehow on all of them one side is pretty white and the other pretty black.

Is that normal ?

Checked valve clearances and only 2 were out of margin, being 0.24mm.

Car seems to drive fine.

It will be the side facing the inlet valves that will be darker due to the cooler, richer conditions.
It should become less noticeable as more miles/carbon build up on the plugs, were your 50miles in one go or several short journeys?

Can't possibly say what I thought this thread was going to be about. Any way back to that fine print of Guinness and a nice curry. :)

Thanks, knew there would be knowledgeable peoples in here. This is the most active Z4 forum I found (others being bimmerfest and zpost).

Where a couple of quiet runs, car did get warm.

At one point I did let it idle for like more than an hour. Was screwing around with power steering bleeding, turning the wheel like a maniac because I kept seeing new bubbles floating around. Not knowing that the reservoir is vented to atmosphere so the bubbles would themselves clear up automatically. Idiot me

Doing DIY Inspection II. Already screwed plugs in 2 weeks ago and am now doing the valve clearances and had to take them out again.

Should have waited putting them in for last, don't know why I already put them in, probably because at the time I forgot valves maintenance requires them out, getting a bit senile :tumbleweed:
