Think I should have test driven one

The valve checks have been done and your description sounds exactly like mine .... really can’t be bothered with an exhaust but a ind kit does appeal.

I absolutely love the way it looks and to be honest it’s the main reason I bought one ! Ive also got in booked in to be fully paint corrected and ceramic coated , so looking forward to that .

Appreciate peoples good replies and I guess I’ll give it some time and go from there
I didn't know what all the fuss was about when I got mine. Absolutely love it now though. I changed my RTAB after a couple weeks and it transformed the car for me. Before the acceleration was really squirmy and hard braking didn't feel controlled. Car felt pretty s**t to be honest and didn't inspire confidence. I opted for Polly bushes and I've not looked back.

M/// are also set up with loads of understeer. You need to pull the camber pins out and get the camber pushed in.

I think once I get the car back from my trusted Bmw specialist and get the all clear ( and from this thread I’m confident nothings wrong ) I can just start to enjoy it and put those not so nice noises down to being normal .

100 miles is not enough to appreciate the intoxicating appeal of these cars. You need a good blatt with a mixture of all road types to get it. Hats off to you though for posting this. Most of us are smitten but it's always refreshing to have the perceived wisdom challenged.

No appreciate I really need to give it a lot longer and let the M get under my skin . I am a realist though and no car is with out faults

I obviously have the coupe version but it’s very strange to think that people looking for a soft top would be comparing the s2000 and z4mr as possible purchases but in reality they are completely different in so many ways ! Ones a nimble , sharp , light car the others a mini muscle car in nice cloths !

Same here normally but I fancied a road trip and the Alps were calling. You should try it, it’s what these cars are made for

Have to say why get an M then? These cars are meant to be driven. I really don't get why people buy these and then do 5 miles a week in them. If you're not going to make the most of it why not get a Golf GTi or Focus ST? They're practical and a bit quick but no charisma.

It took a few months to get used to mine - the S54 felt so rough compared to the N52 in my old 3.0si. Love it now, though

I went from an S2000 to my MR....and hated it. I missed the gear change, engine, lightness and general feel. But, I had only been using it run the kids about and hadn't got a feel for the car. I went out to Snowdonia one Sunday morning, took a route from Oswestry to the back of Bala and learnt how to love the car. So much so, that I'm planning a couple of French road trips next year.
Give it time, give it a good run, accept it's very different to the S2000 and im sure you'll learn to enjoy it....... Adding a GruppeM helps too.
Now gone.......Z4MR. 2007. Boring silver.

Have to say loved mine the moment I got behind the wheel.

The only thing I didn't like about the coupe was the boomy interior and it used to give me a headache on long journeys, got used to it pretty quick and loved it the whole ownership.

Saying that came from E46 M3s E92 M3s etc to knew what I was buying.

You could say many negatives about the S2000, the fact you have to revs the balls off it all the time yet the S54 has 80% of torque from 2000rpm.

No car is perfect and they do take time to get to know. Get it on some good roads and it will all come. 100 miles IMO is not enough to close a book on something.

I fell in love with the roadster lifestyle from the first time I drove my MR. The engine took me longer, for exactly the same things you have listed. The standard exhaust sounds pretty rubbish bellow 2k, then you get that tapperty tap noise from 2,2 to 3k, I drove around for weeks enjoying the roadster aspect, but thinking the engine was off. I recall making excuses to a petrol head mate, about the tapperry noises. He said he hadn't even noticed it. After several weeks reading up on Vanos and the like, on this forum I realised mine was actually less tapperty sounding than most ///Ms and more importantly discovered what happens the other side of 4.5K, where the S54 turnes from grumpy old man to modern day Rock star. :driving:

Give it some time and press the loud pedal more, it won't break.
