Does anyone know this M

Post by Johnbmwz4 » Sat Jul 07, 2018 8:52 am

Hi, as the title states. Seen this on AT and have had a couple of email conversations with the seller. Just wondering (hoping) if it’s on ex forum members car. Car seems ok on paper and has heated seats, folding mirrors and rear parking sensors. Has full service history but the original book has been water damaged but there is a duplicate book. I have been sent pictures of the services done on both the books and all seems ok ish. Mot history check not too bad but seems to have suffere badly from corroded brake pipes. They get mentioned on almost every mot.
Thanks in advance

Mine has that on most the advisorys too. I think its the way it was made. I replaced mine with some braided lines when I got it.

Take a good look underneath. Looks and reads like a sound car.

I wouldn't worry too much about corroded brake pipes OP.

My Coupe had advisories 2 years running on the rear brake pipes, and my BMW Indy was quoting hundreds to replace them as the OEM ones apparently need the fuel tank to be dropped to fit the offside one.

But forum member ducklakeview (who is based in Cheshire - but your location doesn't show) replaced mine in copper last year for a great price!

No advisories this year - the tester actually complimented the way they had been fitted!
Coupes because stunning!

I never got the chance to get down to look at it unfortunately. Not 100% sure I want an M yet so want to look and test drive one a bit closer to where I live. The Z4 I have now blows me away every time I drive it so I’m not too sure the extra £10K will be worth it for me but once I’ve driven one who knows....

I also cast my eye over this car ad while looking. I was in two minds whether to got down the M route or the E89 DCT 35i or 35is route :?

I think it was originally up for 13.5k - 14k. I'm not sure Interlagos is a colour for me however, at that money it may be worth a look. I had to stick to my budget as it also had to factor in changing the crankshaft bearings which, some will argue, need doing between 70 - 100k.

It’s £11995 on eBay and gumtree but £12995 on auto trader. I assume the lower is the latest price. Bargain really if car is as good as they say it is.

And there is the rub - if it's as good as they say it is! Surely a sort after car would be snapped up by now?

True, its now £12995 again on all the sites. Had a good look at the the water damaged service book and the replacement one. The water damaged one is quite badly damaged so cant read much on it. Also makes me think why its been water damaged. Water in car maybe at some stage? The replacement one has 2 dates missing from the services and has had 2 oil services next to each other when one of them should have been an inspection 1 (i don't know what they do on an inspection 1 by the way). I would ring up all the garages that did the servicing to verify the work has been done before i even viewed the car.

I don't remember this advice when owning an e46 M3 using the same engine. Is this now common advice on M3cutters where there are many more instances of this engine?

I'm not sure about cutters as I don't frequent that forum. General consensus on here is that it is wise to do them more as a precautionary measure as it's a know week point on the engine. That isn't to say all cars have an imminent failure just around the corner - the conditions vary from car to car, how it's been serviced, driven etc. As the likes of Tom Scott have mentioned, there's no need to panic or for scaremongering, it's a consideration. Ultimately it's personal choice. My Indy stated it is wise to donthem and that they do 4 - 5 per month.

Can you feel any softer brake pedal or any other difference with copper being softer than steel?
