Exactly that. A mate wound back 40k miles over 3 years on a Merc E class convertible he had, traded it to a dealer who didn't bother to check and it was then retailed at that mileage. Very poor form all round.

I understand the dilema, as I have been considering doing the same thing. Mines on ~100k miles, its pretty much perfect and I love it, but I suspect it won’t appreciate as well as a lower milage version. I guess we’re all hoping the value of our cars goes up like the Z3M’s have, and if so I suspect a <50k mile car could go from ~£16k to >£30k over the next 5 years, whereas a >100k mile car might only increase in value by a few k£. In this scenario, spending £5k for a lower milage car makes good financial sense if you can afford it. The downside is that for a car in regular use, any additional milage will have a more significant impact on the potenial future value and that might make you think twice about using it, which would be a shame..

On the other hand they might not appriciate significantly, in which case £5k for a lower milage version with the risk of hidden faults makes very little sense..

Winding back the clock is fraud.

It's true that prices may rise in the future but it's all relative in that you may have a more valuable low mileage car however, to change to another lower mileage car will still cost you money! I think the price difference tona car with 30k miles less will always stay the same.

That silver grey with red leather has been for sale for over a year.

Simply because it missed its run in service.

I test drove the silver one a while back. During the test drive all the electronics went crazy, dashboard completely lit up with warning lights. That coupled with the missed running in service was enough to put me off.

I totally agree it’s not acceptable.
Personally I respect every factual comment anyone makes. As the model is fast approaching the classic car bracket, knowledge is the key my friend

You know I make a point of playing it by the book.
At least it gets future owners thinking when they go view cars

Thing is Dan, I think you are right - whilst we joke here, I can imagine there are those around for whom this is normal practice 😔

Your on a level Si and know me first hand.
You can Recall the excitement when we went to view No.474 roadster. I went in hard on that car!! Rolled around on the floor in my proper clothes.
Turned out to be a knacker!

Moral of the story is, anyone can have their pants pulled down if they live in a bubble and got their blinkers on.

Very true Dan and I appreciated it because at that stage, I was probably one of those who would have had his pants pulled down!

Coming back to the OP's original question, I say keep a giod car that you know - and enjoy it. 😊

I would not trade it for another one with half the miles if you asked me. Just drive it, use the 5 G's to go on a massive european roadtrip like I did a couple of years ago (done 5k miles in one summer alone), forget about the number on the odometer and be happy.
That's my dream summer holiday.... Aaaaah, the open air freedom....

Oh, wait I need to go help with homework... I'll be back
