Good BMW inde in or near Berkshire for MOT & possible underseal?

Post by NorthernSky » Wed Jun 06, 2018 7:47 am

Hi everyone,

Hoping someone could drop me a name or link to a good BMW specialist garage near Reading that could do my MOT, plus a few extra tweaks to my Z4MC. Apologies if a bit of a mundane question on this part of the forum - not had to get the MOT done so far, and don't want any old garage failing it on something silly before doing work to pass it.

Cheers.
Tom

A lot of specialists don't do their own MOTs (e.g. Mark Purcell in Oxford), so worth checking first if you're really that worried about it (I wouldn't be).

I've used Grosvenor Motor Company in Caversham for almost all my Z4MC servicing. Justin there is a top guy. They've got really good facilities there and loads of courtesy cars available. I wouldn't say they were the cheapest but they know their stuff. Looking at their website they do MOT's for £54.85.

I also hear good things on the forums about TWG Automotive in Sandhurst although never used them, don't think they do MOT's though.

That was me I think. And yes, good guys, Jamie knows S54's very well and did a good job with mine with work that needed doing that was fairly in depth. Good prices too. Don't think he does MOT's though like most but does prep for it if needed.

Personally I've just taken mine to any old garage, while you wait, types in Reading for an MOT and never had a problem and usually compliments. I think most will assume the owner is probably an enthusiast and knows their own car pretty well so unlikely to try it on for a rip off!

I'm in Berkshire (just), but use a local garage recommended by a mate of mine who is a trader for MOTs: - http://www.stgeorgescoachworks.co.uk/

But whenever any of my BMWs needed any work done I've used TWG for the last 4 years, but sadly they aren't an MOT testing station: - http://www.stgeorgescoachworks.co.uk/ The principal, Will, and at least one of his techs is ex-Sytner - but much cheaper! Others on here go there too.

BMS Surrey are top notch technicians and also carry out MOTs.

Both Kevin and Lee worked at BMW for circa 15 years and know their stuff. Lee even went to the BMW factory in Munich twice as a part of a BMW programme whilst he was there.

Let us know how you get on.

Thanks everyone - I'll give Grosvenor in Reading a try, first time with those guys, but have had the recommendation for them a few times from people now. Lots of backups by the sound of it, but fingers crossed... these guys will do a good job.
