Sensible price?

Post by Kgv2 » Sun May 06, 2018 10:44 pm

Hi, due to impending redundancy I'm considering selling my Z4MR its in red with black interior, no sat nav, 38k refurbed wheels, new discs and pads and absolutely immaculate condition. FSH including running in service, all BMW except last one at specialist. It's 2007 on 57 plate. Just passed MOT with no advisorys, My question is what would a sensible asking price be in current market? Thanks Kevin

Private sale no warranty £14k - £16k zone ? Could try it higher initially & response will indicate if its tempting anyone
Ins2 done or needing doing will have a bearing for most private buyers , otherwise there sounds little to knock the car on from your brief description

Thanks, it has 14k to next service, paid more than this for the car last year but prices appear all over the place hence the question. Certainly wont be selling for less than £16k as can't see what else you could buy for equivalent money even if it means the soup kitchen!

I 100% agree on your perspective .
After scouring the Z///Market the past 6 months knowing I was after another prices are all over the place .
It's also easy to rate our own cars very highly but I can tell you from recent experience the reality is far from the truth . To that end if you do have a real gem then hold on to it or hold out for a figure that satisfies.
Very often a decent advert with decent pics will find you the right buyer

I spent a while looking for the right car and form what you've said it feels like a car worth probably £16.5-17.5k in the market today. That said the weather has been brilliant which will lure people in, a recent service and fresh brakes is a huge win.

I think the MR is so hard to price at the minute, really sorry you have to sell in your circumstances.

Hi Kevin..
I've a similar mileage Z4MR, just having had a full interior re-trim however..
Whilst the market is a mixed one for Z4MR's currently - I (FWiW) wouldn't be letting mine go for less than the figure you've mentioned.
I'd try and keep her, if you can

I would say you have one of the lowest mileage Z4MR's around in the best colour combo, although that is subjective but Imoa Red with Black Interior demands top money.

Having new brakes and discs is a nice bonus, but provided you have a full service history it doesn't matter if the next one is an Inspection II or an oil service. People buying a Z4M must expect higher running costs than usual BMW's, and the cost of entry into the exclusive Z4M club. Still far cheaper running costs than Porsche or Aston Martin.

I would say your Z4MR is potentially worth £20k. What other roadster can you buy for that money that has as legendary an engine combined with exclusivity.

Be aware you have a rare and very desirable car, don't let it go too cheap. You just need to wait for the right buyer.

Too many people on this forum talk down the values of these cars, usually because mentally they are thinking of their own budget limits.

Put the price up higher and you can work down from that etc. If people bid you low just tell them to go and buy a 3.0si or a common Boxster! 😉

Values will rise on these cars as you simply can't find many of them, and there are even less with sub 40k miles and FSH.

Good luck!

Thanks for all the replies and kind words, hopefully I will survive the cull, but my company are being purchased by the same company that made me redundant 2yrs ago! All good fun.
