Sad story OP!

I bought my 123d from a Cooper showroom in 2008, and wouldn't ever go near any of their sites again!

But when I had newer BMWs with Service Pack I always used Sytner, Sunningdale (even if the workshop moved to Ascot) and never had an issue with them.

Now my BMWs are older I have been using a BMW Indy in Camberley (so not too far away from you) for both of mine for the last 4 years or so, and I know of a couple of other forum members who go there - plus there is a courtesy car for £15 a day I think should you need it.

I had the same discussion when booking my M in for an oil service. Their computer doesn’t list oil, insp1 or insp2. It took a lot of explaining on the phone to make them realise that a micro filter doesn’t cost £400; eventually they complied...

Utter madness isn’t it.

Was yours part of the Coooer group, or is a BMW system issue? The chap yesterday couldn’t seem to understand the fact a micro filter was not the price he was claiming...even trying to show parts prices.

All cleaned this morning, and I can see 1 or 2 long micro marks along the bonnet, the sort I’d expect to see dragging a dirty blade across dirty paint in an ark shape, plus a minor one. You have to move about to see them, but given it went into them like a sheet of glass I’m still angry about it all.

I’m also convinced I’ve a door ding that wasn’t present before (dealer made a song & dance of parking it across 2 bays so ‘nobody can damage it’).....seemed weird in a busy car park but now suspicious!

Door ding will be hard to prove, but do I push for a professional resolution to the bonnet, or just suck it up and put it down to experience and never cross their threshold again with any of our 3 BMW/Minis?

I got a respray on my boot and drivers door & mirror after I found scratches when i picked it up after a warranty repair.

Probably would not have got anywhere, except for the fact that I showed the photos from the day before when I picked the car up from a £750 detailing/correction session, and the fact that I’d left notes both in the car and on their computer system stating not to wash it.

Took them 3 attempts as the first 2 attempts they tried to polish them out, which just left huge swathes of swirls marks.

The price was their system price, had the same conversation via their telephone network booking it in. Just a lot of people who don’t know or care. If you don’t know your stuff they will take your cash - even worse, was he said it was due to it being an M Sport :headbang:

If engine goes puff, they are the last people to have changed the oil....and it’s only on 24k, an interesting discussion.

Oh and here’s the muppet drying my car with the devils tool. All in all, a shite day car wise, and wife doesn’t understand my mood tonight.
Everything you have said about the whole episode scares me  i would not be able to rest until i had bought my own 10w 60 & thrust it into the hands of my indy to change while i had a coffee & watched . The dealership you have chosen are clearly inept in dealing with your model of car so why would you even trust them & actually leave the car + key
I will be emailing the manager once I’ve had response regarding the paintwork.

If they are happy to stand by having used the correct oil for my car based on their master tech doing the work, then I’m happy if they are. It’s more the front of house vs the actual mechanics that worries me, oh and the car cleaning gorillas  Surely they can’t log a number plate and then use the wrong oil on the instructions provided to them?

Although I certainly won’t be returning to Cooper BMW Reading, or their other branches. But also despise Sytner, so am going to have to go indie now I think. Deffo recommend either Munich Legends or BMS Surrey.

However I’m in shock at the service you’ve received. I’ve had services at main dealer before and never had such issues.

In future OP if you really want to stick with the main dealers.

Go to Vines group garages in Guildford or Redhill.

They seemed to be the best of a bad bunch when I was using the dealer network.

I’d never use Cooper ever again due to a few bad experiences but I’ll keep them off the forum.

Best of luck going forward

I've always got on OK with my main dealer, but that is probably because they know me and have been there a number of years themselves so know about the "proper" service schedule our cars should follow.

The Service desk guy even gave me a Z4 as a loan car when my company sooter was in, knowing I had one at home.

In saying that though I use an Indy for my zed generally. Last oil change was at main dealer though as it was cheaper and quicker (indy 30 miles away) than the indy.

Z4M and the dealer service

2 years ago they were fine, we dropped both our Zs off for a service on a sunny day & they gave us a 2 series cab saying 'we shouldn't miss out on the sun due to a car service', which was a great touch; hence I went back to them. 2 years ago, an 'oil service' existed, but it appears to not be on their systems, only 'inspections'.

I genuinely think they would have charged me £1200 for an oil service with a microfilter, which really worries me!

Just looked at the invoice from 2 years ago oil service.

Cost of labour was £62.50, now £84.35 (must be the cost of a sponge / blade monkey  )
Cost of oil was £8 per L, now £12
Cost of oil filer remains the same £13.19

Oil last time was Helix Ultra AP, this time Ultra RA.....off to google.

RA is racing, and is just the newer version....so I am more relaxed. Or at least hope the chap with the spanners can spot the difference between a 'big M' badge vs the little ones & select the correct oil...5L is £56 from Opie, so there is not as much of a mark up on the oil as I'd expect.
