My thoughts too. Surely it's going to be sucking in great gobs of hot air? Oh but that noise though! :bonk:

Air intake temps fall pretty rapidly once you get moving so as long as it’s ducted well then it’s probably not as bad as you’d first imagine. The bigger issue imo are the filter socks-they generally do nothing for decent flow into the trumpets. A better option would be to have a larger filter that gives more space around the openings but you’d need a custom backing plate to hold an off the shelf filter and some way of sealing it to the trumpets.

Personally, I think I might prefer the hard edged resonance a carbon box gives the induction note but then I’ve not heard this kind of setup on an s54 so I might change my mind if I ever did. Whatever the case, these things sound great once you open up that intake 8)

I've been toying with the idea for a while, but think they'll be too loud for a daily driver, and the money (stacks & alpha-n) could be saved towards something I really need.

Plus, I'm not sure whether it'd pass UK track sound limits. Mine, with just the Rogue Diablo exhaust, already records 92dB at Oulton.

Does it sound exactly as the carbon airbox or I am wrong?

I have not heard one in real life but from the video sounds very similar like the CF airbox
. The sound is indeed godly. :D

From what I've seen/heard on track, they're a fair bit louder than genuine CSLs and M3s with aftermarket airboxes (which should be obvious by the shortness of the intake tracts compared to any airbox.

On some tracks they have to lift off the throttle where the drive by noise sensor is.

I don't think there's much heat soak unless you're sitting in a traffic jam, but I assume a vented bonnet with trumpet filters would solve that?

Drove an e46 m3 with velocity stacks, hated it. Too loud, spoils the whole experience imo.

I can imagine my engine lasting about 5k miles here with no cleaner in front of the intake.

You can buy trumpet/stack socks/filters. I for one wouldn’t run them without either.
