Possibly returning to a Z?

Post by AndyZ » Sun Apr 08, 2018 7:30 pm

Hi Chaps.
Got rid of my F-type R as I was fed up with it being at Harwoods Jaguar for more time than I was driving it. Looking at a Z4MR (my previous one was a ‘57 Z4MC) the R I’m looking at had its first service at 3100, rather than 1200 miles. Comments / advice please!

Thanks Mr.Tidy.
That thread pretty much says it all - 3k+ for the first service clearly is a no no! I’ll keep looking.

Hi Andy, good to see you coming back to the M..! Not surprised with the Jag, my mates one feels badly made and certainly not £80k worth. There's loads written about the 1200 mile service, but I'm yet to see one ZM with an engine that's blown due to a late service.... :|

Similar thoughts to you Andy about RIS and history in general, seen a cheap R just advertised in your area. What spec are you looking for?

Late running in service wouldn't deter me from a potentially good car , , , missed valve clearances & stretching the service regime to the max would concern me more .

Welcome back. Runing in service is there for a reason. Not sure I 3k would put me off an otherwise sound MR though.

Looking for a low mileage coupe. Condition and mileage more important than anything else. Only interested in the R as mileage was low and car looked good. Unfortunately the guy had filled the boot with hifi bits and then found the very late RIS. Was low spec. though.

Have you read the whole thread? If so it should help give you reassurance that a slightly late running in service should not be a mechanical problem. By all means use it as a haggling tactic, but the oils used from the factory are exactly the same as those used at the running in service. :)

No problem, on the same page now, I think :)
