Going on the above with inspection 2 only done 4K ago you need an oil service and brake fluid change.
Last service was July 16, technically not due till then.

Thanks folks,
I had the brake fluid changed last year when I changed the rear discs and uprated to HEL lines. Will get onto Williams Stockport and Darren Wood for quotes.

Oil + filter
Coolant flush
Power steering fluid flush
Diff oil
Spark plugs
Air filter
All of the above + get an oil sample so you know whether you need to consider looking at replacing your rod bearings.

Nope. Inspection 2 was only 4K ago on 40k miles!
Oil and brake fluid as mentioned above.
If you need rod bearings at 40k you’d be very unlucky and in any case one oil sample after 2k miles of the oil being changed last would be unlikely to tell you that info.

Technically you need an inspection 1 in June this year if you wanted to keep the service history spot on.

Yes. Although it has only been 4,000 miles since his Inspection 2, this took place nearly 4 years ago.AndyBeech wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2018 5:24 pmNope. Inspection 2 was only 4K ago on 40k miles!

The OP’s car has primarily been serviced at BMW main dealer; who do not change coolant, power steering fluid or diff oil as apart of any of their service packages.
Coolant should be changed every 2/3 years, power steering fluid every 3/4 years and plugs every 4/6 years regardless of mileage.
The OP has not confirmed whether this work has been carried out within the above timeframes, hence my servicing suggestions.
I have seen cases of rod bearings need replacing on M BMWs at 40,000 miles. Getting an oil analysis to check the metal particle volume within the engine oil is cheap and provides the owner with peace of mind.

BMW service book states that with low mileage cars additional oil services can be carried out between inspection services which are done on mileage.

I disagree. Srhutch has advised correctly - only an oil service (oil change and cabin microfilter) and brake fluid service is needed. Doing an inspection service is unnecessary and a waste of money.
Although rod bearing failure is rare at that !any miles, it isn't unheard of so an oil analysis isn't a bad idea to get some kind of feel of the state of the bearings.

Without going into it we’ll agree to disagree, not about to argue about it. If the OP wants to spend his money on that stuff then that’s his prerogative. IMO, it’s massively overkill.R60BBA wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2018 8:08 pmYes. Not sure what quoting a different engine’s rod bearings has to do with an S54 though apart from them both being M engines. I stand by the relevance of getting one oil sample as piece of mind isnt correct. Over a period of time yes maybe, one is of little use IMO. I wouldn’t be in the least bit worried about rod bearings at 40k unless I know the car has had heavy track work or other such similar circumstances.

I’m in a similar situation;
Had inspection 2 in 2014 at 38k, oil service in 2016, now on 47k and will be having Inspection 1.

Why? After only 10k miles since your inspection 2 an inspection 1 service isn't needed and you'll be paying to have your valve clearances done well ahead of schedule. If you're really worried about degradation over time (and that would really only be relating to corrosion of components) then I would suggest just getting a standard oil service done plus just the visual inspection parts of the Inspection 1 service.LostBoy_84 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 27, 2018 11:06 pmI’m in a similar situation;
