Wheels/Suspension/geometry combination

Post by InterlagosZ4MR » Thu Jan 11, 2018 12:12 pm

After about 4 years of M ownership I want to refresh suspension but, critically, want it more compliant and the car to be more predictable and chuckable. Not remotely interested pin

Am I right in thinking that a combination of Bilstein B12/CSL Geometry/Pilot Sports/Genuine CSL rims will be best?

With CSL Rims, are there any aftermarket rims that are as light or lighter than standard Z4M factory rims? Or are they all heavier, which means no option but to go genuine CSLs

Many thanks

I think you'd struggle to find a wheel rim that's heavier than the oem 224 Z4m to be honest, they are extremely heavy.
The CSL wheel is a bit lighter but there are many wheels far lighter than them. If you're after greater compliance I certainly wouldn't be putting on 19" Csl rims with the correct sized tyres which have extremely small sidewalls. 265/30 on the rear.

If you're after lightweight wheels in the style as csl's, have a look at BBS or apex. Also stick to 18s as they're lighter than 19
Combination of of b12 and csl geometry seems popular on here though

Ha! Those 19" CSLs are so chuckable!

A weight comparison:
Z4M 224 18" rims: F=12,1 kg, R=13,6 kg
CSL 19" rims: .......F=10,8 kg, R= 11,3 kg
Aftermarket example:
Apex Arc8 18" rims: F= 8,3 kg, R= 9,0 kg
Apex Arc8 19" rims: F= 9,3 kg, R= 10,0 kg
Z4 MC 07 / A08 Silver grey / Black interior w Carbon leather / VT+RE mounts / 10.9 / cdv- / RPi / Cup2 / Arc-8 / Lugs / KW V3 / GC camber plates / Vorshlag RTAB limiters / Custom alignment / Aux / Stubby / Mud flaps /

Agree, even aftermarket CSL’s are lighter than OEM 18”. Must be made for trucks? :)
I use only Eibach Pro springs (150€) with my 235/35-19 & 265/35-19 Michelin SS (as close to oem wheel diam. as possible).
CSL settings.
Great comfort, great handling. 😎
