What’s everyones thoughts on oil services?
My M had an inspection 2 in April this year and with condition based servicing it won’t need a ‘oil service’ until 2019 with the mileage I do. That said, I want to change the oil in the spring when I take it off sorn as I believe it is benificial and good practice.
Firstly do you think this should be an ‘extra’ service and therefore the service counter shouldn’t be reset, or an ‘official’ oil service which will accelerate when the car needs an insp 1 (probably 2019 as I’d want the oil changed in the spring again)

Secondly, I’m more than capable of changing the oil myself however, with the amount of weight that seems to be placed on the service history of the S54 (rightly or wrongly), do you think it’s worth getting the ‘extra’ oil service done at a garage just so I can get an invoice for proof?

Cheers

I would not rest the indicator as you are not even doing it a 2 years or mileage.

On that basis I would also do myself, just keep he receipts as proof. That is unless you want to pay extra for a stamp that’s isn’t needed.

What srhutch said in my opinion.

I’d drop and refil the oil yourself, noting mileage and date in the service book along with “see reciepts”. I’d keep a receipt in the folder for the oil and also the oil filter. I’d leave the reset alone. This is what I do although my car is unfortunately not an ///M

Prudent move mr P , with the car living outside through winter & the long run to the South of France / Alps you did along with some spirited Normandy miles more recently  as said no need for reset service trip or a stamp , just make a note for future reference .
6 litres required & worth a look at Millers http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Millers-Oils- ... SwUKxYhuFI

I have changed to annual servicing on mine, now I'm doing less miles in it. Now doing, Oil change, Oil change, Major. With brake fluids each time too. :)
