z4m , whats the actual weight??

Post by BMWZ4MC » Sat Dec 16, 2017 6:56 am

This is from when mine was weighed. It had a full fuel tank and 80kg ballast on the driver’s seat.

That sounds good, what have you changed on your car to save weight?

1,453kg for the Roadster
...but doesn't specify whether that's 'wet' or 'dry'.
My handbook says the same too, based on that figure I am exactly 30 kg heavier with over 3/4 of a tank of fuel.

The UK sales brochure gives an unladen, EU weight of 1485, just 2kg more than my cars actual weight, however, the brochure says this includes a 90% full tank, 68kg for the driver and 7kg for luggage, but in standard (no options) trim. That doesn't sound 'unladen' to me but anyway.
If you minus 68kg and 7kg, the weight with 90% fuel should be 1410kg, why is mine 1483kg? The HiFi, Sat Nav/DVD, electric folding mirrors and pdc all adds a little to the weight, but not that much?
Rather than Flimper spec. mine appears to be Pie spec. :?

Intake (but I doubt that reduced the weight), Remus back-boxes, H&R ARBs, KW Clubsports and CSLs are the only weighty items I’ve changed. I suspect the exhaust and wheels made the greatest difference.

My APs and rear ARB are lighter than standard but the exhaust valve adds quite a few kgs back.

Have you put a smaller rear ARB on your car or is it a tubular ARB? My uprated ARB (solid bar) is definitely heavier than the OEM one.

Hi John, how are you?
In which case, I suspect my ARBs will weigh more than OEM too.

Heavy buggers for the size. The engine is nearly 60kg heavier than the N52, iirc. I’ve clawed half of that back, as others have, with CSLs and Al front calipers, but it’s difficult to know where else you can shed weight from the front of the car without spending thousands.

Do you know the weight of the KWs vs the stock items? Wouldn’t be surprised if they were the same weight or heavier.

i actually don't think this too too bad at all, but i agree for the size quite heavy , its really possible yo get these LOW 1400s....

The biggest and easy weigh to drop is the seats, your talking 30 kg EACH, a setup thats totals 15kg with the hardware is where some really solid gains can be made!

Yeah, totally. Even if you take into the account the cost of something like recaro PPs, it still works out at decent £ per kg. Still pushes the front/rear balance further forwards though, judging by Dave’s numbers.

You're right, I have the rear only which is solid. I couldn't remember the comparable weight when I fitted it.

Really good to see, at around 1400 is where id like to see these guys with reasonable weight saving measures, i wish their was some bol on replaceable FRP / Carbon panels, the trunk lid, and doors are insanely heavy.

At a weight of about 700g per litre it would have to be on very low fuel to get to 1450, but not far off. :)

Beedub wrote: Fri Dec 15, 2017 3:20 pm Has anyone weighted their car recently???

im seeing so many different figures for the weight???

roadster 1410kg and coupe 1425kg is what i though it was??? but then i see some publications listing roadster at 1485 and the coupe over 1500???? surely that cant be right??

So just wondering if anyones actually weighted their car or seen the corner weight figures?
Corner Weight of my Z4M roadster => Total: 1.413kg = no driver / no wheels / with fluids / gas tank 75%

Image

Z4M roadster on a car weight (used for the weight of trucks) => Total: 1.440kg = no driver / CSL wheels / with fluids / gas tank: ?
I also put my M2 on this scale and it was exactly the weight that was stated in the M2 brochure. Impressive scale!
