Some detailing and mods for my M

Hi all,

I hope you have had some good drives over the bank holiday :driving:

Sadly, my car has not been far this weekend. However, with last weekend flying around the Peak district, and a three-week trip around Europe coming up in two weeks, it's not the end of the world.

Instead, this weekend has been dedicated to getting the M shinier, louder and faster. In particular:

My partner and I put 5-6 hours into detailing the car this morning. In short - a good wash (twice), clay-bar, full polish and wax (Das-6 Pro really helps!), and a valet inside. It's gone from looking pretty grimy and a bit dull, to shiny and beautiful:

Looking much cleaner than a few hours earlier (caked in mud and dust).

I love Interlagos blue. It looks different in different lights. Sometimes bright, sometimes dark, sometimes almost purple.

Most scratches gone!

Tomorrow morning I am off to Evolve where I will be getting a new exhaust (H&S), intake (Eventuri) and remap. I've had a H&S before so I know what to expect. Should be fun in the tunnels of the Alps

Your partner has that stance of "where have you been all day" in that picture

Car looking good though

The car looks stunning ! Well done!!

Out of interest, does the evolve sell the H&S exhaust ? And will the remap add power or make the car smoother in its delivery ? I heard that the Z4M ECU is much more advanced vs the E46 M3 so gains from mapping were more limited...

:?

Thanks!

And yep, it's a great stance. Haha. We were both exhausted after working hard on the car. She's really happy with the results though (and pleased to see the Das-6 and min-vacuum - previous Xmas presents - being put to good use.).

Thanks! It is looking great. Rained soon after, of course, but it was beading up nicely.

I don't know if they sell the H&S exhaust, mine is from a previous car. They do sell others though, and might be able to help source one. I haven't worked directly with the H&S guys myself, but hear they are a good bunch.

As for the remap. It and the Eventuri should add a little more torque and bhp, but nothing epic. I should be getting a few read-outs from their rolling road tomorrow which I can share. There are others on here that have had similar work done and have seen ~10-15 bhp gain. However, I think the main gain is in the delivery. We'll see. I think the biggest difference will come from the emotion the H&S and Eventuri stir. My first M had a H&S on and it has never felt the same without...

V nice
Loving my intake
Thought about a remap

But not sure on prices as evolve are in Luton
Not far from me, but that hole could never be far enough away either hahahahaha

Looks superb! Love this colour! Tyre shine is only a few quid from even the likes of Halfrauds though :poke:

I guess prices depend on the remap. I'll let you know about mine at the end of the day. They've just put it on the dyno at got 332bhp stock.

Thanks! And yeah the tyres look a bit of a mess compared to the rest of it now but didn't have any stuff with me. Will need to pick some up

Looking forward to hearing how it goes. They did my E46 M3. Was a bit annoyed by a slight lack of customer service at one point. However end result was absolutely brilliant.

Evolve are literally 5 mins from where I live ! I was thinking getting a re-map too,
If your interested, perhaps they might do deal if 2 or more cars are booked ? :?

Scaragmanga is looking to join in also if price right

What does that entail buddy?
N price if 3 of us do it?

Ps mine still as fing detailers

£425 if 3 of us have a stage 1 re-map
Would have to all go on the same day

Hi all,

I had a good day at Evolve yesterday. Nice chaps, keen on their Ms (no surprise!) and interesting to talk to. Some nice cars there (an old M6, various M5s - including one of theirs with 750bhp! and a stunning 1M with an E92 V8 in it pushing out ~450bhp).

RESULTS:
Here are the topline figures, with graph below for those who want it:

1) Completely stock = 332bhp.
2) Swapping out the OEM exhaust for a H&S cat-back = 331bhp. So essentially no difference. Curves are near identical.
3) Putting in the Eventuri = 341 bhp. So a bit of a gain. Torque increased from ~2750rpm, bhp gets the biggest lift from ~6,000rpm onwards.
4) Adding in the remap = 352 bhp. So a bit more of a gain. Little to no gain in torque below 5750rpm (it comes maybe ~100-200rpm earlier in the low revs), but it then holds it much better/less drop-off after 6,000rpm. Unsurprisingly the bhp gains are primarily after 6,000rpm. The max bhp is at 8,250rpm. I don't plan on reving it out this far and am aware that that last 250rpm is not stock and can add wear to the engine. It's nearly hit 350bhp by 8,000rpm.

SO WHAT:
I can't say I am driving >6,000rpm that often and so I think the torque increase from the Eventuri in the lower range is the greatest benefit most of the time, plus - of course - the sound.

I don't know how much difference the Eventuri vs. remap contributed to the change in feel, but I can say that the car definitely feels more potent. It kicks in slightly earlier, is more eager to get through the revs, and is generally a bit more ferocious. However, part of this may be pyschological - not just due to spending the money, but also due to the epic sounds now coming out of the car

It roars when accelerating - the tunnels on the M25 back home were epic, with rumbles/the occasional pop when your foot comes off the pedal. There is a bit of drone, which I expected having had a H&S before, but it is not a that bad as long as I avoid the ~200rpm band where it is most prominent, and so not a big deal (for me). The exhaust definitely dominates over the Eventuri, but the tone of the combined sound is better - to my ears at least - than only having the exhaust. A bit more roar than boom now. To each their own of course

So. It was quite a big spend for limited gains on paper, although getting past 350 bhp is nice (they said they sometimes see them getting 355-360 bhp). But I am pleased with the result given the improved power delivery and (subjective) improved sound.

For the latest posts it looks like you guys are in for a better deal than me! My remap was £499. But oh well.

I hope you found this helpful.

:driving:

JT: how did it go ? Interested to hear how you got on. Combination of eventuri and remap make a material improvement to my E46 in drive ability and smoothness of power delivery.
