The prices the trade are paying far exceed what they'll get you for it

I think people get caught up looking on the site, then just default to sell their car on it when the time comes. All of the Ms that have sold on there have been well under what they could have got from a trader. And remember by the time the genuine buyer has connected with the genuine seller and driven off in the new car a commission has been paid to the auction house. So, fair market value is achieved once this is factored in.
