Engine oil choice
In the past for previous cars i've had before my Z4MR I wouldn't have been too concerned about Engine oil brands. 'For a given spec all brands are the same', I used to say. But not for my Zeddie - oh no! Well..... may be... 'perhaps'.
I am looking at Mobil Engine Oil (10W-60 - 5ltr) and the usual Castrol Oil (10W-60 - 4ltr). Virtually the same price at Eurocarparts after the customary discount code. We all know 4L won't stretch, so i will need to buy an additional 1L.
What is everyone's experience with the Mobil Engine Oil 10W-60 over the Castrol equivalent? Will the engine use ( burn ) more of the Mobil? Will both oil brands perform the same?
Thank you kindly for your advice.

4 + 1 won't do the job , you need 6 litres.
As for brand ? We all have out favourites & has to be the Millers CFS 10w60 for me

mr wilks, do you use an oil pump to the dipstick or do you get umder the car? I use the former and normally get exactly 5L out, no more...

Hi Andy
What oil would you recommend for my 35is. Ready to bring it out of hibernation now the weather has taken a turn for the better. Not meaning to hijack the thread.

Indy does it but always given 6litres or 2x5 litre then taken the surplus home . Always assumed it was a 6litre changeSpaniarduk wrote: βFri Feb 22, 2019 2:59 pm mr wilks, do you use an oil pump to the dipstick or do you get umder the car? I use Fuchs Titan race pro s, as I think Ester based oils are better. But any oil from the likes of shell, Mobil 1, Castrol etc will be fine. Check opie oils out for more info
Also you will need 6 litres for a full change not pumping via dipstick.

mr wilks, unfortunately the S54 engine requires 10w60, which is considerably more expensive

If that's the case I wouldn't be using that method. I use the traditional sump drain technique (under the car as you say) and I get closer to 5.5L.Spaniarduk wrote: βFri Feb 22, 2019 2:59 pm mr wilks, do you use an oil pump to the dipstick or do you get umder the car? Mangozac, do you use a lift or any other method to lift the car horizontally? otherwise I risk not being able 2 get all the oil out

patience is the clue, go for a short run and warm up the engine, put the car on axle stands, open the drain plug and let it drain for an hour,Spaniarduk wrote: βSat Feb 23, 2019 11:41 am Mangozac, do you use a lift or any other method to lift the car horizontally? otherwise I risk not being able 2 get all the oil out
and be careful removing the plug cus it well now be hot of course. if it proves too hot let it fall into the drain tray and retrieve it later.
