I do my own oil changes between services, but want to keep the service book stamped and upto date. That's why I went to BMW in the first place, took keep full BMW service history. But on a car thats 11 years old I don't think it will make much difference.

Your cars are M's so I suppose that matters more for you guys as the resale value will be higher. I think a buyer who knows his stuff will know if a car has been cherished and won't worry if a decent indi has done the service work, over a main dealer.AldridgeZ4 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 17, 2019 8:08 pmI do my own oil changes between services, but want to keep the service book stamped and upto date. So a quick look on ECP
Castrol Engine Oil (Edge FST Engine Oil - 10W-60 - 4ltr) x two and a bosch oil filter comes to
£87.76
So what do they do other than give you a coffee while you wait to have your wallet emptied.
Being a mechanical maintenance technician I could not bring myself to pay over £125 for parts and what on the face of it 30 mins work. While I have the ability to do it myself I will.

I recall my first service . Inspection 1 at the local main dealer. Cost me over £900 Never been back to a main dealer since. India every time here. Funny thing is my indie used to work at the same main dealer before he set up his own shop.

Thats crazy prices then Z4M oil service £200 and oil service with microfilter £611. Surely there is more to it than just the microfilter.
I just checked for my 3.0si and it would have been £600 for oil, microfilter, air filter and spark plug service.
I did it last weekend, bought the parts for £160 and it took me an hour and a half on my drive. £440 saving is madness

Always wondered why people pay more to dealerships for a lower quality service (both mechanic experience on s54 engines and z4ms and quality of work given the time pressure they are under). Would have thought these cars don't require full dealership history given the type of car they are now, I would see it as a negative rather than positive if it did have full dealership history.

Tbh, I wouldn’t be put off as to the general public a car with full main dealer service history is more attractive.Viren wrote: ↑Fri Jan 18, 2019 1:00 pm Always wondered why people pay more to dealerships for a lower quality service (both mechanic experience on s54 engines and z4ms and quality of work given the time pressure they are under). However, this doesn’t bother me and I’m content with the indies I use, who do a better job at fairer prices.
Plus this could easily be explained to a potential buyer the day I decide to sell.

mmm-five,
my tongue-in-cheek question refers to the possibility of there being more expensive oil than that used in the S54...

I know - it's what I expected from you John
But it's a new M engine, so of course BMW are going to want you to think that you need a special oil that 'only' works in their new engine
