I don’t think they’re that expensive ( £300 ) from the main dealer, last time I looked they were under £200, try the guys below, they’ve been good to forum members so mention it when you speak to them and you could get a discount

Thank you, gentlemen!! All my research indicates that the BMW global parts system has been totally drained of these cuties for some time. Hoping that one becomes available from a resale, some rear-end damage, or the need to exchange the brace for holiday cash ;~)

The e46 brace is its replacement/substitute I think.

While rummaging around on RealOem I noticed that the strut brace accessory for the E46 (non M) is listed as one part number for the entire assembly: 51710395077. None of the appropriate vehicles listed for this part are equipped with the S54 engine. However, the strut brace assembly, specifically for the E46M, S54 engine, is listed by individual part numbers. As an example, 51717895414 is the part number for the bar. Is it possible that those owners who were having fitment issues, were, in fact, wrangling with the non-M version? Difficult for me to accept, but possible. Is the non-M version even different than the M version?
Also, there's that pesky issue of worn engine mounts. I'm totally embarrassed to even hint at the possibility, but if new engine mounts were installed, would there then be a clearance issue?
So, how to reconcile the issues some owners have had with rubbing the tops of their engines, and a less than happy angle match with the tops of the strut towers? Heck, I have no idea.
HOWEVER, after viewing the pictures above of installed strut braces, it is clear that I MUST HAVE ONE. I am in LUST!!
New (from the dealer) (ooooh, shiny) E46M kits are available here for about $430....with no added tax and no added shipping costs.
I'll report back soon. Thanks for all your input, and, of course, more is always welcomed.
